What you can expect

Starting December 13th: Experience the Grand Opening of Congo Falls!

San Antonio Zoo unveils Congo Falls, its most ambitious and immersive habitat yet, marking the return of gorillas after more than 30 years. This two-acre, state-of-the-art habitat replicates the lush African jungle, offering enriching environments for gorillas and unforgettable experiences for guests. At its heart stands the Mays Family Silverback Peak, a revolutionary 70-foot-tall gorilla tower—the first of its kind—allowing gorillas to climb high above the zoo for panoramic views of the San Antonio skyline and The Ralston event center. Explore expansive roaming areas, interactive gardens, waterfalls, and climbing structures, all designed to stimulate natural gorilla behaviors and provide guests with incredible vantage points.

During construction, limestone was discovered from the very quarry that supplied stone for the Alamo, deepening the zoo’s connection to San Antonio’s rich history. Congo Falls is more than a habitat—it’s a testament to the zoo’s commitment to conservation, education, and innovation, inviting guests to connect with gorillas and learn about their protection in the wild.

Enjoy all San Antonio Zoo has to offer with an any-day admission ticket, valid any day during operating hours. Explore 50,000 acres and see over 8,500 animals. From November 18 to December 31, your ticket includes entry to Zoo Lights, transforming the zoo into a winter wonderland.

Marvel at Caribbean flamingos, playful lemurs at Pride Place, hyenas and bears in The Grotto, and Komodo dragons and otters in the Asian Forest. Visit the Cat Grotto to see caracals and clouded leopards, the Friedrich Aquarium for aquatic wonders, and the Reptile House for snakes, turtles, and lizards.

Immerse yourself in Neotropica, home to jaguars and Amazon wildlife. At Africa Live, meet world-famous Timothy and Uma, see Nile crocodiles, okapi, African wild dogs, and a giant aviary. Big Lake is a paradise for bird lovers, with whooping cranes, pelicans, and flamingos.

Encounter lions at Big Cat Valley, gaze across The Savanna at zebras, giraffes, and rhinos, and embark on an outback adventure at Kangaroo Krossing. Discover frogs and salamanders at Amphibia, and meet Australian wildlife at Wild Australia.

Visit Hixon Bird House to see birds from every continent, and don’t miss Kronkosky’s Tiny Tot Nature Spot, designed for young explorers up to 5 years old.
