While we can't guarantee an encounter with forest animals, the chance to see them is always present, so keep your camera handy.
Nordmarka, the lush forest area just north of Oslo, is home to an amazing array of wildlife. If you're lucky, you might spot a moose, beaver, deer, eagle, hawk, or even a fox – just to name a few! . You never know what might appear around the next bend! (Our guides have spotted wild animals along this very trail several times, so it’s always an exciting possibility!)
Our adventure begins from Backstube Opera cafe just near Oslo Central Station. From there, we’ll hop on a scenic train ride to Frognerseteren station, where we’ll enjoy the views as the train winds its way through the hills, bringing us to the starting point of our hike.
From here we will make our way through the lush green forest to the majestic Skjennungstoppen mountain. The trail offers a perfect balance of challenging terrain and peaceful, serene pathways, as you hike through the stunning Norwegian wilderness. When we reach the summit, the reward is worth every step – panoramic views that will take your breath away.
In this part of the forest we might catch a glimpse of fox, beaver, moose, deer, eagle, hare and many other animals! They are all harmless and can be quite elusive, but keep your eye's peeled because every day is a new adventure!
Along the way, we will stop at two “hytte” (traditional Norwegian cabins). First, we’ll visit Skjennungenstua, followed by Ullevålseter. They serve great coffee and fresh pastry, such as freshly made waffles, served with jam and sour cream or Norway´s famous brown cheese. We’ll also make a stop at the geographical center of Oslo, hidden right in the heart of the forest.
Our hike will end at the picturesque Sognsvann Lake, where we’ll take the metro back to the city and finish our journey at Jernbanetorget.
Please keep in mind that this hiking tour is quite challenging.
