Forging: Using a hammer, cutter, and anvil, cut out the blade and tang (the part that extends into the handle) and thrust them into the crackling embers. Shaping: Alternate blows with the maker to shape the blade. Any imperfections are then trimmed by a hydraulic cutting machine. Sharpening: The blade is then sharpened on a grindstone.
