At Grandma’s Home Cooking School in Chiang Mai, cooking isn’t just about recipes — it’s about family, culture, and the joy of sharing food together. From the very beginning, you’ll feel less like a visitor and more like part of the family.
Your day starts with a comfortable pick-up from your hotel in an air-conditioned van. Sit back and enjoy the ride through Chiang Mai’s streets and countryside as we take you to your first stop.
We’ll begin with a guided visit to a lively local market, where our friendly instructors will walk with you among colorful stalls. They’ll explain Thai herbs, spices, sauces, and seasonal vegetables, showing you how locals shop and how these ingredients bring Thai dishes to life.
Next, we’ll head to our large organic farm, surrounded by rice fields and filled with herbs, fruits, and vegetables. Here you’ll enjoy activities that make our school special:
• Feed our chickens, gently collect their eggs, and even hug them for a fun and memorable moment
• Pick mushrooms from our unique mushroom hut — something you won’t find at other cooking schools
• Touch and smell herbs and vegetables in the garden, and when they’re in season, you may even pick some yourself
When you arrive at the open-air kitchen, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing drink of your choice — Thai milk tea, Thai lemon tea, or butterfly pea flower tea. We also provide a free herbal drink during class and unlimited bottled water to keep you cool and comfortable throughout the day.
Then it’s time to cook! Each guest has their own cooking station in a small class size, so you get plenty of personal guidance. Our instructors are not only knowledgeable, but also warm and patient, explaining the dishes step by step while sharing the stories and traditions behind them.
You’ll cook Thai favorites such as Pad Thai, Tom Yum soup, stir-fries, and curries. And of course, mango sticky rice, Thailand’s most beloved dessert:
• For Morning and Afternoon classes, mango sticky rice will be served free as a sweet treat to enjoy at the end of your meal.
• For Full Day and Evening classes, you’ll actually learn how to prepare mango sticky rice yourself, so you can recreate it back home.
For our Full Day Class, you’ll also enjoy something truly unique — making fresh coconut milk the ancient way with a traditional coconut grater, a skill no other cooking school in Chiang Mai offers.
After the cooking, it’s time to sit down together and share the feast you’ve prepared. Surrounded by the fresh air of the farm, the laughter of new friends, and the warm hospitality of Grandma’s family, it feels more like joining a family meal than attending a class.
When the day is done, we’ll bring you back to your hotel safely in our air-conditioned van. You’ll leave with new recipes, cooking skills, and unforgettable memories of Chiang Mai, proof that happiness really is cooking with Grandma.
