The guide was very knowledgeable and socially aware, but I would have preferred if some of the time spent rambling about Swedish eugenics and Eppstein’s (lack of) suicide had been spent instead on giving some context and background about the Troubles. For someone who’s not already well-versed in the history of the Troubles, the anecdotes were hard to weave together into a coherent story and timeline. I did love the guide’s mic setup with earpieces for every guest. That way, you could wander off to take a picture or check out a plaque or mural and still hear everything being said, and you had no trouble following along while walking along a busy road.

What a fantastic, informative and candid first hand account of The Troubles in Belfast. We met our tour guide, Arthur who put us right at ease with his witty banter and humour. Hailing from Scotland ourselves, he knew we’d understand his approach and tour style right away. We loved it instantly. (If you are sensitive to light humour and strong language in appropriate times, this tour may not be for you). Arthur was brilliantly engaging and kept us all on our toes all the way around the city. He was an extremely knowledgeable fellow, with great integrity and came with a completely honest and frank account of how life was for people around Belfast during a horrid period for many people, including himself. Would recommend for anyone looking for an honest and informative experience about The Troubles. Exceptional.
