What you can expect
Discover the highlights of Banjul on a guided tour. Visit the Serrekunda, the largest town in Gambia, and the Tanji Fishing Village. Stop for a coffee break at Lamin Lodge, see the monkeys at Bijilo Forest Park, and visit the sacred crocodile pool in Bakau.
Start your day with a pick-up from the port and drive to Serrekunda, the largest town in Gambia. Visit the tie and dye batik factory owned by a Gambian lady called Musu Kebba Drammeh. Witness a display of the production of the batik and have some time to look around and shop for souvenirs.
Pass by the animal meat market in Serrekunda and learn about the meat culture of Gambia and other traditions. Stop for a coffee break at Lamin Lodge, a rustic riverside lodge. Relax with a coffee or refreshing drinks while enjoying views of the mangrove-lined River Gambia.
Spot birds from the lodge’s wooden decks and take in the peaceful atmosphere. Continue to the nearby Tanji Fishing Village, where colorful fishing boats bring in the day’s catch. Observe the lively activity as fish are smoked and traded, and interact with local fishermen.
Visit Bijilo Forest Park, also known as Monkey Park. Take a guided walk through the coastal forest, home to Green Vervet and Western Red Colobus monkeys. Learn about the park’s importance for local wildlife and conservation. Enjoy close-up encounters with the monkeys and take photos amidst the beautiful natural surroundings.
Drive to the sacred crocodile pool in Bakau. Upon arrival, have an inside visit of the traditional museum before walking around the pool. The local guides of the pool will give you a briefer explanation of the existence of the pool and explain how local people benefit from it spiritually.
Stroke a crocodile but be strictly supervised by a local guide. Before heading back to the port, stop at the Arch 22, erected in honor of the July 22nd Revolution. The 37m high Arch is spectacular and offers a view of the whole city and its daily activities.
