Kyushu and Okinawa Luxury Vacations

1 Star – Bait and Switch Pricing, Disappointing Experience Our stay at Hotel Nikko Alivila started with what felt like a classic bait-and-switch. After traveling for more than 14 hours and driving through the rain in a rental car, we arrived exhausted, only to be told that our room rate had increased by more than $300. We immediately questioned the charge, but the staff told us we had only two options: pay the higher rate or lose our reservation. After such a long journey, we had no realistic choice but to pay. No guest should be put in that position after booking a reservation in advance. It was an incredibly frustrating and stressful way to begin our vacation. To make matters worse, the overall experience did not justify the premium price. The hotel's amenities, service, and overall value were noticeably below what we experienced at the Grand Mercure Okinawa Cape Zanpa Resort, located just up the road. The Grand Mercure offered better facilities, a more enjoyable atmosphere, and far greater value for the money. We expected much more from Hotel Nikko Alivila given its reputation, but instead left feeling taken advantage of. I cannot recommend this hotel based on our experience, especially if you expect the price you booked to be the price you actually pay.

미야코지마 여행 중 알라만다 스위트에 묵었어요. 가장 인상 깊었던 건 가성비. 풀빌라가 이 가격이라고? 싶을 정도로 룸 사이즈가 크고, 프라이빗 풀이 딸려있어요. 다른 지역이면 두 배는 받을 가격대. 객실은 솔직히 살짝 연식이 느껴지긴 해요. 다만 관리가 잘 되어 있어서 청결도나 컨디션 자체는 문제 없음. "낡았지만 관리된 호텔"이라는 느낌. 스텝들 친절하고, 한국어 가능한 분이 많아서 의사소통이 편했어요. 작은 디테일이지만 여행 만족도에 큰 차이가 있었요. 조식은 베스트는 아니지만 나쁘진 않은 평타 수준. 단지 내 황금온천도 만족스러웠어요. 연못에 거북이가 12마리 살고 먹이주기 체험이 가능해서, 아이들 데려가시는 분들께 작은 포인트. 시기라 단지에 다른 리조트들이 많이 있어서 다음엔 다른 곳도 묵어보고 싶어졌어요. 럭셔리한 풀빌라를 찾지만 가성비도 중요하신 분께 추천합니다.

Great clean room

The hotel was just amazing. We stayed for our honeymoon and were treated so well. The staff made us feel so special. The rooms are amazing and the rooftop hot tub was a real joy to wake up to. Could not recommend enough!

Right from check-in, the service was impeccable. We were welcomed with fresh juices for the whole family and driven to the villa in a buggy. With breakfast provided, and a meal allowance, we were well fed throughout. Breakfast alone included bread basket, smoothies, appetiser plate, main, soup and a fruit combo. They even offered champagne as part of breakfast. From 2pm every day, they also served free cakes and snacks in the lounge. The staff were super attentive, and checked with us daily on our meal plans. The rooms were very clean, spacious for our family of five. The bath tubs were ginormous. Toiletries were generously well stocked. The outdoor jacuzzi in our villa was awesome. The hotel had a super relaxed and chill vibe. Simply the best of Japanese hospitality. Do take note that there is a daily charge for parking.

I am American and my beach vacations are usually to Mexico. Please keep that in mind when reading my review as that is what I will compare most of it to. I am spoiled. If you are familiar with that type of resort, this will dissapoint you. 1. If you are expecting something nice and modern you will not get that here. This hotel is very outdated. The service is on par for a nicer hotel. The staff was 4/5, Actual hotel probably 2/5. The AC is very weak and Okinawa is hot and humid. The first night we were sweating and had to call for a fan. We left the ac running the next day and it was much more comfortable. Also the parking lot is far from the hotel. They do have a shuttle though. 2. The beach was fantastic. The water here is some of the best I've seen. Bahamas level or better. There are still some fish in the swimming area even though its netted off. 3. Expensive! This hotel was the most expensive of our entire Japan trip and probably the worst. Not only was the stay expensive but everything you wanted to do there cost extra and there was a huge mark up on drinks. I got used to paying under 500 yen for a beer in the mainland but here it was 1000 for one beer. Even 990 for a cola! I got used to Japan prices for the previous 10 days and then got sticker shock when I had to pay America type prices. I would not stay here again. Would just pay to use beach

Location is very convenient next to or inside the shopping mall. Staff were friendly and housekeeping was very thorough and clean. breakd=fast was excellent

It’s a well known luxury hotel in Japan and everything was nicer and staff treat you with even more politer. (Japanese people are already polite). The hotel is away from the station and the taxi will cost 1,500 yen each way. The electrical plug was only one on the desk made difficult for us to charge multiple devices at the same time ( laptop, phone, headphones, extra batteries x 2 people). Technically there were another plug by the phone but it’s very slow….
