Ushguli (in the Svaneti region in northwestern Georgia) is a community of four villages, and claims to be the highest permanently inhabited settlement in Europe. Ushguli is inhabited by an ethnic group called the Svans and is characterised by its Svan towers - used as familial living quarters, fortified fortresses of defense, and personal treasuries. Excellent hotel in Mestia
Large modern hotel with a pool in a back packers town. Very comfortable room. Comfortable bed. Decent breakfast. Wonderful shuttle service to town center. (Walking can take 20 min on uphill terrain). Excellent front desk service. For unclear reason no hot water in the shower in the morning. Worked ...
