About 1/2 of the rooms at Liwu are hostel style, and the other 1/2 are hotel rooms. It's very reasonably priced, the rooms are very spacious, and the breakfast was quite good (buffet style). There aren't a lot of restaurants within walking distance for dinner, especially after around 8pm. The owner and staff are very hospitable.

Enjoyed our stay here. Breakfast was good with a nice view. Staff was very nice and helped us find a tour guide that took us around the park and town. Would stay here again as it’s very close to taroko

Fabulous accommodation

This is by far the best place I have stayed at so far in Taiwan. The hosts are lovely. It is more a mini hotel than a a home stay. Super clean and quiet. Beautifully appointed. And an excellent price. The hosts recommended a loca hotpot place for dinner - again superb! I would totally recommend staying here.

Adequate

On the plus side, this hotel is well-located at the entrance to the park, economical, clean, provides the basics. Minus side: very uneven service, worn facilities with lower two floors dank with smelly drains, no lobby and few amenities (no tea kettle or soap in the rooms). The manager is very helpful but isn't around much, while the young woman speaks no English and ignores guests. If you just need a clean bed for one night, it gets the job done.

Quiet place near Taroko National Park entrance

When we arrived in the afternoon, we were received well and given all the information. Liwu hotel is very close to Taroko National Park, that is why we chose it . It is in a small town so there are very few options to eat in the town. You can get to the hotel by bus from the Xiechen station. The hotel staff is very helpful Room was clean and had all the necessary amenities except in room coffee. Breakfast was good. he room we had, had a nice view.

One of my most satisfying bookings so far!

One of the very few hotels where i was not disappointed, our room was way bigger and spacious than how it appeared in the picture. Breakfast was nice, clean space and friendly staff. Highly recommended for couples, friends and family alike.

Basic hotel close to Taroko National Park. Receptionist was talking on a mobile/cell when I arrived and long after that. Had no chance to talk to her, she just gave room key. Breakfast basic, but will do for free. I stayed in triple room, it was functional, everything worked but had a feel of being tired. If I was staying in the area again, I would choose something nicer unless budget was the only criteria. There a fuel station and couple of shops by the hotel. Don't confuse the place with Taroko LiWuZuoCun B&B, which is on the other side of the river. I drove there first using Google Maps and LiWu Hotel key word.

Great motel. Nice breakfast. Convenient location.

Good stay

It is fine for what we need, just a place to sleep, the room is quite nice and clean, the bathroom is not so good as when you shower, it made the toilet and everything wet as well, as it is all in one area. The bed is big, breakfast is ok to start the day. The location is next to Taroko bus stop so it is great, and walking distance to Taroko entrance and visitors center. It more like the hostel. We took the train from Taipei to Xincheng station and took 302bus to Taroko bus stop, then walk backwards about 30m to the hotel.

Good enough, but eh

It was easy to recognize and therefore get to via taxi and language barrier. Extremely close to Taroko Park HQ which was fantastically helpful in our trekking about. Check-in was a breeze and they even let us check in early which I love. This place was no nonsense, but a little too much that way. I felt like I didn't want to walk around in my clean bare feet on the room floor but felt the same way about the slippers provided. :/ There was lots of English translation printed around which was great and helpful, especially because we got very bland and minimal interaction from the staff. Not rude, just not much of anything. The breakfast was not awesome. Very Taiwanese which is ok if you go for that meat floss, tofu, and rice pudding thing. For the rest of us, there are a few steam buns and toast 'n' jam. But, they had some of the best single-packet instant milk tea I've ever had! and I've had a few. My family and I tried to find the same kind from the grocery stores in another part of Taiwan but no such luck! I plan to keep my eye out.

Close to the entrance to the Taroko Park

Quiet, even though it’s on quite a busy road. Staff, and the owner, were very helpful. Overall, the food was good, although breakfast didn’t seem to be very inspiring. Large room and all the usual facilities you’d expect, with good house-keeping.

Closest to Toroko Gorge National Park.

This is the closest hotel to the entrance to Toroko Gorge National Park. This is certainly not a 5 star property but clean and very friendly. You can hire taxis or rent scooters to go into the canyon and explore. If you rent a scooter and continue up the canyon road be aware gasoline is only available about 60km after the start of your trip.

Conveniently located outside taroko gorge. Simple & fairly clean. Nice staff, but not fluent in English. If arriving outside of check in hours, make sure to arrange a ride from train station & let hotel know in advance.

Great location for access to the park.

Small hotel/hostel practically empty first day. Enjoyed free breakfast and their coffee is great. English is limited but we managed as I had retained some Chinese from when I was in Taiwan 45 yrs ago. A limited menu but adequate and convenient. Missed cleaning our room once but rectified the situation. As a plus there is WiFi throughout the hotel. Not the case in every hotel. Near the bus stop and all day pass is available for purchase from staff who were very nice and friendly. I would stay there again.

Convenient to Taroko Gorge entrance.

Average hotel near Taroko

-Staff was competent but not friendly. -Noisy at night due to the rooster, dogs outside, and other guests. Soundproofing is very poor. -Room is old but clean enough. -The best part was eating breakfast while enjoying the view of Taroko Gorge. -The area is pretty scary at night, not many people and limited street lights. Nothing to eat near by except for a 7-eleven. -Next time we would book somewhere that is more active at night.

Wonderful budget accomodation

Had an amazing stay at Liwu Lodge - while it is a sleepy place right outside the park, the business owner made me feel as accomodated as possible. When he realized I only had half the requisite permits I wanted to do a hike the next day, he drove me personally to the police station to finish the permitting process. That's 5 star service in my book! The breakfast was basic but filling - perfect for a day before hiking. The bed was comfortable after a long day of hiking. The on-house restaurant makes up for the lack of food options around the area and was really good. Definitely would recommend to people who don't mind basic accommodations for a day to save time traveling to Taroko.

Good location and laidback, okay service

The inn is in a small, somewhat artsy but simple, non-glamorous town above the Liwu River. It's a short walk to the entrance to Takoro park. It has minimal staffing and you should ask if you need something. The staff during our visit did not speak English but another guest or other local visitor can help. It was friendly and quiet during our 3 day visit. You can hike from the hotel to the visitor center (1.2 km) or Shakatan (2.5 km). The room we stayed in was large with large restroom. The bed was hard and clean.

Nice hotel within waking distance to Toroko Gorge

Beds were comfortable. Dinner at the restaurant is very good. The owner woke up very early to drive us to the train station. This was also a last-minute request. Very friendly staff.

Convenient stay for exploring Taroko Gorge park. Hotel offers an okay breakfast and the beds could be a little-bit less hard. The attention was really nice and English is spoken by the administrators.

Acceptable for the Pricing

The staff is very friendly. The location is very close to the east gate entrance of Taroko National Park. When we got dropped off by a taxi at the visitor center in taroko, it was approximately a 20-25 minute walk to the hotel. It's located right next to a hostel so you can't really miss it. The staff did their best to speak English, so they were able to communicate with us slightly. Once we got to our room, we noticed it was very spacious. They provided us with towels, toothbrushes, soap, shampoo, and body soap. Some of the sheets were stained and my pillow seemed to have a few shoe marks on it. But, you get what you paid for. The hotel isn't expensive and it's very spacious for the pricing. I just wish the hotel was a little bit cleaner, bc I had also gotten bitten by mosquitos that night.

Closest to Taroko trails

Although Liwa Hotel was conveniently located to the entrance of Taroko Gorge, we felt it was not worth the stay. You'll have to take the free shuttle bus if you want to tour around the gorge anyway. Clean beds but extra blankets in the closet were musty to the point of being unusable. Shower was a toilet, sink and shower head all in one open space. Service was alright but difficult to communicate. Johnny was friendly. No elevator so we had to carry our heavy luggage up and down the stairs. Breakfast was a traditional Taiwanese breakfast. If that's not your thing, stock up at the 7-11 just down the street. Dinner was tasty but not included. The surrounding area is very run down with streets lined with trash and many stray dogs roaming around. Despite this, we felt safe walking around at night and everyone was very friendly.

Beds and room was pretty cheaply furnished and not the most comfortable....the front desk was not the most friendly and forgot to tell me about the free breakfast the next morning. BUT it was so convenient to Taroko that we were ok with it.

Great for taroko visit.

They should always have someone who speaks English working, but the boss is a great guy and the staff are lovely. Just ask and they will help you. For hualien sites it's far but for taroko area it's great. It's a stunning location .plus there are local shops and places to eat.

Convenient and close to the park's entrance. The staff was really nice and gave us advices on the bus and train timings. Breakfast was simple yet nice! The staff gave us a warm welcome which made the stay comfortable :)

Review for Liwu Hotel.

The area is relatively quiet, which is great for relaxation. The staff went above and beyond during my stay. I left my Kindle when I checked out of the room. Luckily, it was found by the staff. They promptly arranged a courier and sent it to my upcoming hotel. Thanks to them, I managed to get back my Kindle. Thumbs up for their service :)
