"Excellent room and hotel in general with pleasant staff however the food was very poor. Four star hotel but only offering poorly cooked pub food such as F&C, Scampi, Burgers, roast of the day etc.. nothing adventurous, no pasta, curries, no fresh fish although a few miles from the sea except fried cod from The North East I guess. It’s a fair walk to the next restaurant (a hotel) and we saw a Wetherspoons in Barnstaple which we didn’t fancy. We ended up on our last night of three collecting a sandwich from a garage and it was nicer than the previous nights F&C…. I hate writing a poor review as the staff were trying so hard and the hotel is excellent in all other aspects but someone at an executive level made the menu decision as apparently there used to be a bistro…..At 4* hotel prices one aspects 4* food to be available . I should have checked the web a bit closer I expect. Also be aware breakfast closes at 9.00am weekdays (9.30am weekends) and when you’re on a break you need a bit more leeway. It’s an expensive “full English” at £17 and then offered Eggs Benedict at a £3 supplement that’s ludicrous. I suppose we are classed as elderly and so expect everything we need on site and not to have to drive for meals."

"Overall our stay was OK - what wasn't great was when we arrived the lift was still out of service and we were on the third floor, with heavy bags and someone with asthma. The room was, again, OK - hadn't been cleaned properly though with dust along the bar behind the bed and a big brown stain on the floor to the right. We also only had one towel for the bathroom/shower so had to share that in the morning. It was great for being central in Exeter and handy to park in the front, but I probably wouldn't stay here again."

"Hotel was a good location, however double charged me for my stay. The initial quote was given however have seen they have charged me double the amount stated. Room did not have any amenities, kettle dirty, no bottled water, heating didn't work. Shower dirty."

"This hotel has an amazing garden and restaurant but the property itself is in need of some 'love'. Shower screen kept coming off the bath so bathroom flooded, lead flashing still hanging off over a year later. Clean apart from wear and tear. Such a shame because the location and the staff are good"

"Excellent decor and central location to all the cities amenities. Shower room is in need of a deep clean to remove black mould accumulating in the bathroom. Of note, the coffee machine could also do wirh a clean on a much more regular basis because there's no evidence of maintenance. There is a slow biuldup of mould in the loading chamber Security: I had booked 2 rooms for our trip. The following morning I felt a room card under my bed sheet, which I subsequently tested on both rooms. To my surprise the key opened both doors, so I took it to the reception desk. Reception confirmed it was a house key for cleaning staff, that couldopen all doors and had been made inactive. I asked that they tighten up their security to safeguard their patrons, now and in the future."

"A small newly renovated room . Comfortable bed. Lovely indoor pool but very busy , they need to introduce swimming times. Did not try outdoor pool as weather not brill . Need a lift . "

"Staff friendly and helpful. Room was clean and standard amenities available. Vegetarian English breakfast option was appreciated."
