Nice room, great ocean views, comfortable bed. But check in at 4 when the only onsite restaurant closes at 4 most days is a problem for hungry weary travelers.

Location and ocean views were excellent. The front desk people were friendly and helpful. The room itself needs updating. The heavy drapes and heavy furniture make it seem a little dark and dingy. While it was cleaned from the last visitor, it wasn’t freshened up and was dusty. That all said, the views were spectacular!
Woke up to this every morning.
Even on the day it rained the view was great.

Shell Island is the perfect getaway for locals summer. It is on the quiet north end of Wrightsville Beach with friendly staff and beautiful views from your room and balcony. It is nothing fancy but perfect for what it is.

We stayed in unit 711 and were very disappointed with the condition of the room. The pull-out couch mattress was moldy and stained. My husband, who is sensitive to mold, began having breathing issues, which led us to inspect and find the problem. There were no cleaning supplies in the room to even try to address it. The couch frame itself also seemed broken. I do have photos of this issue. Other issues included a wobbly toilet in the half bath, leaky cold water faucet, no dustpan or iron, and a shortage of linens, pillows, and towels for the pull-out bed (though the front desk did provide extras when asked). The view was great and the staff were as helpful as they could be, but the overall condition of the unit—especially the moldy pull-out bed—was unacceptable. I would consider staying at the resort again however, not in this particular unit. Silver lining I learned I should inspect units closer moving forward especially where we sleep.

Staff were wonderful. Room was spotless, beautiful. Bartender, Trevor was great company, managed a busy bar and restaurant with ease and courtesy, with personal attention to each patron. Amenities were well kept and comprehensive. I will come back soon.

My room had a great deal of wear and tear. On one side, there was noise from the parking deck. On the ocean side, a wire or cord of some sort extended from the dunes to the top of the building cutting the view in half.

The floor to ceiling windows and balcony view was amazing. This is an older property and needs updating. My particular room had a musty smell. There was dripping coming from the furnace/water heater closet. The floor in the closet had a 1/4 inch of water and the pipes were covered in black mold. No bottle opener in kitchen. They provided bar soap in the bathroom but no soap dish.

We have been to Shell Island three times. First was our first vacation. The room was nice we really liked it. The Second we got engaged, we had to switch rooms because the first was not up to par and was given one that was very nice. This last visit was our Honeymoon. The beach remains the same "beautiful" however, the rooms continuously change. This room was ok our issue was the tub was stopped up and looked old. Made us feel forced to take a shower. Also the kitchen sink faucet was so loose you could almost pick it up. Depends on which room you stay in. Its a hit or miss with the rooms.

This was a great stay for a night. I wanted to wake up by the beach and did just that with, with a great view. The staff were very friendly, and the beds were pretty comfortable. My only issue was that our room was not as clean as I'd have liked. The restroom was not optimal and some of our dishes had debris on them.

The worst beds I have ever slept in. Not sure if all beds are like this. Our unit was also a little outdated and cabinets were not sturdy and old. Stay clear from room 509. Probably won’t stay here again as the whole resort looked a little rundown and older.

Definite 3 star. Room was clean and they have a good layout, but otherwise average. Need serious soundproofing: slamming doors, conversation in other units, toilets flushing, makes it hard to sleep. Beach is beautiful, but hard to enjoy from the balcony with people smoking pot in nearby units.
