Awa is always an excellent place to stay, especially if you’re in the spa bath room. SKY TV, aircon, etc - excellent! My only gripe is that there isn’t a power switch on the right side of the bed so I can use my phone while charging it, headphones, charger and hubby’s phone (his side has C-PAP). There are heaps of switches on the bench but too far away for my cords to reach.

Fantastic staff, very helpful. The room was very spacious and well set up. We had breakfast from the Awa cafe' which was superb and took in the wonderful view.

We had The Bungalow, which I found needs quite a bit of modernising and updating. Carpets very marked, lounge suite broken and uncomfortable.

We stayed 2 nights in the motel and it was one of the best we have stayed in. Out of all the hotels we stayed in in New Zealand, this was one of the cheapest but what we got for our money was outstanding. A very large comfy bed,a kitchen, air conditioning and large television and a very large bathroom. We also had free use of the launderette including free detergent. Could not fault it and would recommend it to anyone staying in Whakatane.

The property is walking distance from the CDB. Very convenient. Good value for money and clean. Room was very spacious and met all our needs. We do recommend it. No air conditioner though but the fan was very handy. Thanks

I do like the Awa, however I wouldn’t choose the three bedroom apartment again. With zero air conditioning it made it far too warm in the heat of summer. The layout of only one toilet and it being downstairs while all the bedrooms are upstairs was inconvenient and the lack of extraction fan in the bathroom meant having to open the window while showering- which still didn’t do much to help the steam, but it gave the neighbours outside plenty of chances to see us in the shower or toilet as there are steps directly next to the unit so passer-by’s going up or down get an eye full. The sky tv also switched off at 8pm (when the reception closes) so there was nothing to watch for the rest of our stay.

Lovely cabins. Very comfortable bed. A smal couch or couple of armchairs would have been nice. Other than that had everything we needed. Great location for exploring Whakatane and Ohope. Close to supermarket and dinning options.
