Take a break in Wendover, home to luxurious resorts, casinos and military landmarks framed by picturesque desert landscapes.

Come to Wendover to enjoy luxurious delights such as casinos and golf and see the wonders of the flat country. This city located on the border of Utah and Nevada features historic military landmarks, unique artworks and a desert environment that hosts some of the region’s most incredible vistas.

Drive into Wendover along the Interstate 80 Business Highway. The city is 121 miles (195 kilometers) west of Salt Lake City. Look out for The Tree of Utah on the drive in. This stunning 87-foot (27-meter) tree-like artwork is made from minerals native to the state.

Start your stay with sightseeing of Wendover’s airbase past. See the 509th Composite Group World War II Memorial that commemorates the air force unit that deployed atomic bombs in 1945. Take children on a tour of the Wendover Airfield and Museum to see air force artifacts and authentic planes dating back to World War II.

Take an afternoon to play a round of golf nearby at the beautiful Toana Vista Golf Course that has views of the surrounding mountains. The district recreation area nearby has plenty of space to run around or sit down with a picnic and enjoy the fresh air. Wendover experiences hot summers and mild winters.

Head out of the city to see the natural sights that abound in this desert landscape. Drive northeast of the city and catch the view at Donner-Reed pass, a low point with the Silver Island Mountains on one side and the peak of Crater Island on the other. Explore the Donner Springs where an ill-fated group of pioneers stayed in the 1800s. Take an informative guided tour of the extraordinary Bonneville Salt Flats and see the curvature of the earth in this level terrain. Stop at the sun tunnels, a stark work of art framed by desert mountains.

In the evenings, see a show and roll the dice at a casino while you enjoy an extravagant dinner to cap off the day.

Maggots came out of the tap when I turned the water on in the sink. The fridge was unplugged and filled with stagnant water. The room was dusty.

The town is great, especially the air force museum. The casinos suck. Didn't see anyone win anything. Go to Vegas instead.
