We had an excellent room, although we were disappointed to realize the HDMI outlet had been covered by the TV stand so we couldn't plug in our ipad, this was a minor inconvenience. The view was excellent and the room well appointed. Our only let down was the restaurant. This brought a 4.5 star stay down to a 3* at best.
Stale bread and poorly prepared dinner on our first evening was followed by the worst breakfast buffet we had our entire trip. Stale rolls (again) and the only 'hot' item was ice cold soft boiled eggs. We couldn't tell if they had been refrigerated or just cooked several hours earlier. Very limited selection of meat and cheese paired with the less than fresh bread. We ended up checking out early so we could find a bakery and buy breakfast on our way out, we were too hungry to spend any more time enjoying the castle. Disappointing given the hotel price that was to include breakfast. I understand there were few guests at the time - but they would have been better off offering to cook 'to order' rather than putting out stale items and ice cold eggs - especially soft boiled!
AVOID the restaurant in the slow season.
There're many things that you'd reasonably expect when you decide to stay at a castle hotel (e.g., splendid view of towns and villages, far away from any towns and driving to hotel at night or in poor weather condition can be quite challenging, you can easily find bats and mosquitos or hear the wolves howl). Other than these rather neutral factors, there are:-
The good stuff:
Staff really tried to be helpful (but are not very proficient in English); Very respectable "Customers First" approach (e.g., their bar virtually doesn't close as long as guests are still there and they won't take away breakfast items until they've ensured all guests are done with them); Offer late check-out; branded and quality bathroom supplies and everything (down to the cup of coffee that you get); Free admission for hotel guests to visit the museum (but be warned, some displays are quite disturbing).
Room for improvement:
Not much, but subjectively, they could further decorate the hotel to make it a little more luxurious which may enhance the experience that 'hey, I'm actually living at a castle'. Currently, they're using a "less is more" design concept.
Everything here was a treat --- except for the Internet. The views are great, the ambiance terrific (a wonderfully converted/restored castle, replete with two cannon). But do not expect to have any internet connectivity in your room. There is "some" connectivity in the lounge, but that is minimally performant. And of course, inconvenient if you have work to do.
We loved this place. The only negative is that we could never get wifi service. Would highly recommend.

incorrect information given by front desk checkin
the hotel itself is beautiful. I didn't like the fact that it is not just a hotel but a tourist destination with a museum. however, the crowds do leave in the evening and it quiets down. Also, I really didn't like the fact that the hotel never confirmed the room rates for an extra bed for my daughter. They only told me at check-in that there was an additional charge for extra bed and breakfast for a third person, they didn't mention till checkout that they had put us in a large suite to accommodate that third bed and the price was much higher (in addition to the extra b&b fees) than that quoted during booking. Most hotels confirm ahead of time the extra fees via e-mail which allows one options to rebook. All the other hotels just charged typically extra fees for a third person, not double fees. I would have preferred 2 rooms fro that price if I had been told upfront. This way we would have had use of an additional bathroom for the same price! I wasn't going to stand there and argue with the receptionist a check-out so I paid it and left. I am very angry about it though!
View was fabulous. Hotel was amazing. Food was superb. Surrounding area was also amazing. Upon arrival we were told our only chance to make reservations at the hotel restaurant was at the time of check in. Not knowing if there was another option (there are several) we made the reservation. There were only five couples in the restaurant so.no reservation was needed. Further noone was offered seated outside overlooking the lake but instead inside with a limited view. Lengthy discussions were needed to gain an outside table.
Tolle ruhige Lage in historischer Umbebung.
Also wir fahren da definitiv wieder hin! Vielen Dank nochmal an das nette Team!
Tremendously beautiful, both the hotel and the area. WiFi coverage needs improvement. No reception in most part of the hotel except the restaurant. Not an ideal business hotel but vacation travel is perfect.
Alles in allem: sehr gutes Preis-Leistungsverhältnis
Seriously. It's a castle. That's really all you need to know. The bed was incredibly comfortable and I slept like a rock, which is not something I can say very often. We ate lunch in the café and dinner in the restaurant. The food in the café was delicious and priced reasonably. The restaurant was a bit pricey, although the food was tasty.
Sadly, the museum was closed, along with most of the activities in the area. It’s all very seasonal, so when you go in the winter, don’t expect to see much open.
Still, the hotel was great and my wife and I had a good time.
Great location, beautiful renovation of old castle, friendly and helpful staff, great food, spa is small but very private if reserved before and after normal opening hours.... nothing negative about this place really.
