The perfect base to explore this incredible city. Patricia and Else are excellent hosts, and made our stay an experience to remember. We’ll definitely be back!

On my own in Valpo
While the hotel was fine I found it a little strange that the owner was off-site. I was greeted by another guest and almost all my interaction with my hostess was electronic. While she was very responsive it was not the same as being able to speak with a live person. Otherwise this was a good value for the cost.
We had a wonderful stay at Hostal Destino Bellavista. The hostal is in a great location to take in all the sights of Valparaiso. The room and the entire hostal were very clean and cleaned daily. The owner was fantastically friendly and extremely welcoming. Hot showers, adequate kitchen and decent wifi. We really enjoyed our two night stay.
The lady that runs the place is very nice, upbeat and helpful. The hostal has a homey feel and is very well maintained, at the same time you feel it is a typical Chilean house-there are pictures/paintings and nik-nacs everywhere. Everything is clean and servicable , if a little different from more western fittings such as a slightly older oven/stove and toliets that don't flush toilet paper (which is the case pretty much everywhere I've been in Valparaiso-bins are provided) TVs are in every room I think with a couple english channels with news/normal shows as well as many spanish channels. Bathrooms are shared between 2 rooms I think and a couple have their own bathroom. The upstairs floors are creaky when you walk and the walls/floors are a bit thin sound wise - they're the only tiny things I can fault. There is an outdoor area to eat/drink/smoke and a small communal dining room. It's a short walk down (a lot of!) steps to the city centre where there is a supermarket with all you need as well as many small eateries with burger/fries type food, pastries, more typical chilean food etc. There are also several drinking venues for night life fairly close by. You can catch 'collectivo' taxis just up the hill a tiny bit which take you down to the city if you don't want to go the steps, and I've been told you shouldn't really at night, just young kids drinking I believe-like in any city. Enjoy this gorgeous hostal

Utrolig hjælpsom og venlig ejer
Charmerende, lettere slidt hostal (nærmest lidt B&B agtigt). Med en meget venlig 'mutter', som kunne spansk og tysk, og hendes døtre kunne desuden engelsk, så alt kunne løses. Ville spadsere til stationen, men blev nærmest tvunget til at lade hende køre vores bagage ned til hovedgaden.
A very good place to stay in Valparaiso. The rooms are beautiful and clean, decorated with paintings of Valparaiso and with very comfortable beds. We really enjoyed our stay, especially all the conversations with the nice and helpful owner.
Stayed here for 4 nights while helping my daughter start the semester at Universidad Catolica. Patricia, the owner, could not possibly have been more welcoming and helpful to the two of us -- from recommending restaurants and tours to explaining the ins and outs of the "collectiva" taxis (cheap but not for the faint of hear as they drive very fast on narrow streets). She even personally drove us to one of the plazas when she saw us walking!! Clean and comfortable rooms, computer in common area with internet as well as wifi access for daughter's laptop. Front of building has beautiful mural -- many people stop to take pictures! One tip -- if you are a light sleeper, consider bringing ear plugs no matter where you stay -- there are lots of dogs throughout the city and they tend to bark early in the morning. Highly recommended -- like a B&B in U.S or Ireland.
I had the good fortune of landing at Hostal Destino Bellavista for a few nights in late May, which is their low season for tourism, but it couldn't have been a better experience. Patricia, one of the owners, was kind enough to lend me her cell phone so I could call her if I needed anything, and she even took me for a personal guided tour of Valparaiso at night so that I could see all of the different views of the city. The hostal itself is very charming and has lots of character. I was traveling solo, but it would be a great place to go if you're traveling with a group of friends. Highly recommended.
