  • The Church of Santa Lucia, dedicated to the Sacred Heart of Jesus Christ, is located on the hill of the same name in the city of Viana do Castelo. The church was built on the site of a small medieval chapel, known as a pilgrimage site for people with eye diseases. The construction of the temple lasted from 1904 to 1959. The eclectic-style Miguel Ventura Terra project combines neo-romanticism, neo-Gothic and Byzantine architecture. It is generally accepted that the architect was inspired by the forms of the Sacre Coeur Basilica in Paris. To the foot of the church at a height of 195 meters above sea level there is a line of a funicular built in 1923. Tourists can take the elevator to the observation deck under the very dome of the church. A panoramic view of the Lima River valley, mountains and the Atlantic Ocean opens from the platform. In 1927, National Geographic magazine named this species the third most beautiful in the world.

Property is very beautiful and staff very friendly and helpful. Delicious breakfast. Unfortunately the bed was severely sagging in the middle which made it very uncomfortable to sleep and the water in the shower was not hot. The very nicely designed property was not maintained as carefully as you might wish - stainless steel hinges and walls were just painted over.

We arrived late for an overnight stay. The room was great with the exception of the cleanliness; in fact there was some hairs in the bathroom. Other than that it was a great hotel even if somewhat older. The breakfast room has amazing view to the River Lima. Do not miss it.

We'll run, comfortable hotel

The staff and management were extremely helpful when we discovered on leaving that our car had been stolen overnight. They allowed us to make multiple calls and helped by scanning documents which speeded up the insurance process.

Le négatif : chambre ancienne qui sent le refermé, peu de place de parking, galère que vous sortez le soir, pas de possibilité de restauration le midi ni le soir, que 3 prises dans la chambres toutes au même endroit peu accessible sous la table de la petite télé qui date des années 1900 et wifi payant!!! Le positif : hotel propre, personnels agréables et qui parlent Français pour la plupart, petit déjeuner correct, belle piscine extérieur.

Very short walk to town.

We arrived at about 8pm and only one person manning reception which is pretty normal in Europe. Unfortunately for us and the group behind us the check-in person was dealing with a phone booking. It went for 15 minutes! I really enjoyed the hotel building itself. It had areas of unchanged decor from when it was originally built (probably late 60's) and these were in excellent condition. Rooms were very comfortable and clean. Our view was out over the rear parking lot with a view of the marshland beyond. The overflowing rubbish bin in the parking lot was clearly inadequate in size as there were some cats able to poke around inside. At least there wouldn't be any rats sighted. Free breakfast selection was limited to Corn Flakes, and normal Portuguese breads, ham, and cheeses. There was no fruit available. I am fine with this though as this normally isn't offered at what was our price point of €55. Nice shower, temperature, and pressure.

Très bon hotel très satisfait

Nous avons passé un très bon séjour (7 nuits) à l'hotel. Nous avions une chambre avec 2 pièces, une pour nous et une pour nos 2 petits boutchou (3 et 4 ans). Nous avons tous bien dormi. Hotel calme, très proche du centre, personnel très accueillant et souriant! Nous n'avons pas pu profiter de la piscine à cause du temps, mais je me permets d'y retourner. Petit plus : le petit déjeuner est offert, et c'est un excellent buffet avec tout ce qu'il faut pour bien commencer la journée. Nous sommes tous très contents de cet hotel.

Everything was great except the plumbing and the breakfast. The bathroom floor was always wet because of leaks. The breakfast was adequate but could have been better. The room was huge with a fantastic view of the river and Eiffel bridge. It was quiet. The people at the front desk were very helpful especially the manager who gave us so much information about where to go and how to do it. The town center was within easy walking distance. The town people were very friendly and would walk with us to places we were looking for. Language was no problem
