Casa Urbina Wine Resort

"It was just "OK" to me. When driving up, you notice the vineyard is not maintained and withering. The restaurant attached to the hotel has been apparently closed for a year as well. If you are hoping for a vineyard stay... you won't really get it here! The room itself was fine, but for the price I was hoping for a more immersive "Valle de Guadalupe" experience."

"A unique property with missed opportunities Banyan Tree Veya Valle de Guadalupe has a distinctive design, a beautiful setting, and a polite, welcoming staff. Unfortunately, it feels older and less maintained than I expected from the Banyan Tree name and its rates. The architecture is memorable, but its enclosed spaces often feel more like a fortress than a place that embraces the Valle’s views. A restaurant terrace overlooking the landscape could have been a highlight. The two rooftops also have potential, yet a few chairs and cold white spotlights leave them without a clear purpose or inviting atmosphere. The finishes do not match the ambition of the design. Window and door frames look dated and inexpensive, while the room’s lighting controls feel like they belong in the 1990s. Vegetation is taking over the room terrace, and the Cognac Room’s lighting makes a space that should feel cozy seem cold. Despite having two pools, the pool areas offer little shade or seating and seem comfortable for only four to six guests at a time. The poolside food trucks are a nice idea, but they were closed during our visit; we had to call to have them opened. We had a great time overall, which makes these missed opportunities all the more noticeable. The hotel has the ingredients to be exceptional, but it needs more care and attention to how guests use its spaces. At this price, it falls short of the five-star experience I expected."

"Really nice stay overall. The whole property and our room were very clean. The receptionist was great, super friendly and helpful, and the location was super convenient."

"This is a lovely property. We’ve stayed here four times over the years and would gladly return. The basic amenities are there, and the staff has always been very kind. Two things are worth mentioning. First, there is currently construction taking place, and unfortunately it isn’t quiet. Perhaps this should be reflected in the room rates while the work continues. If this was disclosed somewhere and I missed it, I apologize. My bigger disappointment, especially as a returning guest, is the restaurant. We used to love eating here because it was convenient, affordable, and the food was excellent. Breakfast is still great and reasonably priced, but dinner has changed significantly. We had dinner twice. The first night was okay, even though we didn’t love the food. The second night was very disappointing. The tlacoyos were hard, seemed old, and were extremely simple for the $15+ price. The carnitas were also tasteless. Our other dish included steak and two enchiladas. The beans tasted as though they were close to spoiled, the enchiladas seemed like rolled tacos that had been sitting for some time, and the steak did not seem freshly prepared. It was overly seasoned and very tough. With a bottle of wine, dinner came to about $96 before tip. I understand this is a hotel restaurant in an expensive area, but at that price, the quality should be considerably better. We still really enjoy the property and would return, but next time we’ll have dinner elsewhere."
