Boardwalk through the Bog of Tregaron, Ceredigion This excellent boardwalk allows access well into the bog with many good places to stop and observe the wildlife and vegetation of this site. Cors Caron is a raised bog system. The bog covers more than 800 acres (325 hectares). It is 6km in length and provides a habitat for a wide range of wildlife and plants. The bog itself was formed 12,000 years ago when the last of the Ice Age glaciers melted away. A large shallow lake was left, which very gradually filled with sediments and vegetation, forming peat and later, acid peat. For centuries, local people would go and cut this peat from the bog to burn on the hearth. In 1955, Cors Caron was declared a National Nature Reserve in order to preserve this increasingly scarce land form. In 1993, Cors Caron was placed on a list of wetland sites of international importance under the terms of the Ramser Convention. The bog is now managed by the Countryside Council for Wales. "Difficult to assess as visited in early March, so very much out of season. No hot food on premises. Swimming pool cool (heating issues) on the two occasions we tried, Steam room and jacuzzi were OK, Sauna was out of action. Pool Showers out of action on first visit. Enjoyed the 9 hole pitch and putt. Staff were friendly and helpful. Stayed in the Manor House (a one bedroom apartment), rooms were spacious but real mix of quality of furnishings. Plenty of hot water and ample heating. Outside areas looking in need of work (uneven paving slabs etc)."

"Excellent stay at The Harbourmaster. Our room was lovely, traditionally Welsh in design with lots of homely touches and perfect view over the harbour. The hotel itself has a cosy restaurant and bar offering complimentary coffee/tea and cake for hotel guests. Although we don’t eat here we had a nice drink at the end of the evening. Excellent Welsh breakfast with lots of other choices on offer. Would definitely stay here again"
