On August 6, 1945 a B-29 named Enola Gay departed Tinian and dropped the first atomic bomb (Little Boy) on Hiroshima. On August 9, 1945 a B-29 named Bokscar departed from North Field and dropped an atomic bomb (Fat Man) on Nagasaki.
