Your understanding of these beautiful insects will reach new heights at one of the world’s largest butterfly museums.
The Psyche World Butterfly Park combines education and entertainment. Come to marvel at the array of colors and patterns on more than 10,000 butterflies. Expand your mind by learning about the origins of several of the world’s insects in educational displays, before sending it spinning into confusion in a maze of mirrors. Exhibits of preserved bug specimens have them appearing to play football and work out in the gym.
The park was named after both the Greek word for butterfly and the Roman name of Cupid’s wife. It is located just west of Jeju City.
The butterflies are the star attraction at the park, with over 3,000 species represented. On the ground floor you’ll find preserved examples from all over the world arranged in mesmerizing displays behind glass. Study their wing patterns in detail or simply admire the artistry of the curators who have arranged them into an array of captivating displays.
It’s not all about the butterflies, as the museum also showcases numerous other insects. Parody World has realistic scenes of insect specimens performing human-like tasks that have been put together in painstaking detail. Among the many humorous exhibits you’ll see a moon landing, a construction site and a trek to the North Pole, all put together with insects collected on Jeju Island.
Upstairs you’ll find live animals. Butterflies fill the air with color, while several birds and a collection of snakes are also on display.
Other exhibits include a collection of jewelry that houses Royal British jewels and Asian antiques, and the Crystal House, which houses a mirror maze. Children can complete an obstacle course in the Ancient Castle Labyrinth and pet animals in the Wild Rabbit Park.
With so many different attractions a visit here can take several hours. There are three cafeterias, including an outside area and a restaurant.
The Psyche World Butterfly Park is open all year. There is a charge for entry. Get there by taxi or bus from the airport.
