We stayed here for a week while visiting our daughter who lived nearby. The staff were friendly, and polite. No problem with communication even though I do not speak Japanese. I really enjoyed their breakfast buffet. The view of the mountains from the room can't be beat. I agree with one review that said the toilet in the reception is the best toilet I have been to in Japan, as crazy as that may sound. Highly recommend!

Room was amazing and huge! We got a private Onsen in ours and it was so cool! Definitely recommend staying there!!

Big rooms, amazing staff and beautiful surroundings. The Onsen was the best part. Would stay here again.

a great hotel with very comfortable bed and clean room, nice room, best in class service, thank you and a great stay.

Everything was amazing. The room was spacious and my wife and I were able to rest and recover after a long multi week trip through Japan and Korea. The only downside was that the laundry facilities were temporarily out of service during our stay. Other than that I highly recommend for a peaceful night to recover the body.

Great location in Zao onsen town. Very traditional—uniquely like “infinity castle” with stairs and tatami everywhere. The shuttle service from/to Yamagata station is a plus. Only public bathroom available, but there’s toilet in the room.

The staff was amazing! So kind

Very recommed

Absolutely adore Kappa no Yado, and I still daydream of being in Togatta. 10/10 an absolutely beautiful experience. Every staff member was kind, helpful and thoughtful throughout our honeymoon. The grounds have a heartbeat, with hot spring water flowing through the town, bubbling forth rich life. The sounds of bear bells jingling in the street. The glow of modern Japan meets rural Japan in small notable ways.

Spotless rooms, absolutely amazing staff

Perfect room for reading a book with extra wide window with comfortable couch bed at window side.

I had an amazing stay at Bekkan Fujiya Ryokan! The staff were incredibly warm, attentive, and made me feel right at home. The baths were absolutely relaxing and beautifully maintained—perfect for unwinding after a day of exploring. I also loved that they are tattoo-friendly, making it easy to enjoy the onsen without worry. Everything about this ryokan, from the service to the atmosphere, exceeded my expectations. Highly recommend for anyone looking for an authentic and relaxing Japanese...

I love cold weather and snow, so that part of Northern Honshu was perfect for me. I also have family in the area to drive me to Zao, which is a lot easier than taking the bus! This hotel is clearly on the older side, but that really didn't detract from the whole experience, which was positive. The bath was relaxing and though it wasn't large, I never felt over crowded. The beds were comfortable~ sort of an amalgam of futon and boxspring. Though I wish they were on the tatami, it was nice...
