I was at the highest point of Central America and had survived everything it had thrown at me. Looking out to see the view, resplendent volcanoes that surround Tajumulco feel like they are bowing to you, a conqueror of the toughest amongst them. Looking out from where I had come I could see clouds beneath, it was a breathtaking sight. The clouds formed a whirlpool in the sky, with the obligatory patch of sky in the middle. On the other side, is the Pacific Ocean along with land parceled into different shapes and colours. About an hour out of Xela is a wonderful Hike to Laguna Chicabal a sacred Mayan Lake. Plan to leave early and spend the day climbing and in and around the lake. There is often mayan ceremonies going on. Best way to get there is by shuttle from Xela. Note you cannot swim in the lake, it is prohibited.
