Staff are great but the facilities are not updated
The whole building is old, therefore, I understand my expectations can't be too high. However, there is one thing I couldn't get it. The tissue holder is installed at the position close to toilet's water tank which means I need to turn around my body to get the tissue when I need it. It doesn't make sense to me. The tissue holder is supposed to be installed at a reachable position (ex : side or front), not at back. BTW, the sign shows we can't toss the tissue paper to the toilet because it will clog the toilet.

Get the leake fixed. But still a good spot with a big bed
The hotel is on the 4th floor, with15 rooms or so. Walking distance to Ximending night market. Rooms with windows facing the street can be very noisy as there are many motorbikes even at night.
The place was near Ximending district. Easily accesible for food, goods and other shops. There's a 7 eleven right beside if you want quick buys. The MRT Ximen station is about a 10 minute walk. The place is nice. There's always a staff in the desk. The roon is nice with toiletries. The lights give the room a great ambience. The windows are large and shows a nice view of the city. Overall, definitely a nice hotel.
I’m not really that picky, but there were several random hairs in the bed. The shower was also not very clean. Also, the elevator was down when I visited.
Got a spacious room with 2 big windows, comfy king size bed, comfy chair, water, toiletries, Tea and coffee. bathroom also spacious with a good shower.
however. Very weak unstable wifi, not enough light in the room, Got 2 towels with holes, which is a shame because another towel was practically new.
Booked 3 nights, but room was not made up at all after the first night, although it says daily room makeup.

Disliked: Cleanliness, amenities
Not really anything good about is hotel. Small room n not clean at all. I wouldn’t recommend
The property close to the Station but not that close, we have to take taxi.
Out site of property looks dirty, run down, it appears no attention to renovation. Room is too small, there is no breakfast. There is limited crackers. It is cheap compares to USA, but it not in Taipei. There is many hostels better than this.

Stayed here twice. Very different rooms.
I stayed here on my first night in Taiwan and gave a 5 out of 5 "glowing" review. On my last night in Taiwan, I made the same reservation as the first night, but when I arrived there was an older gentleman and a younger lady, and saw I was only staying for 1 night. The man was to show me the room and said it is on the 8th floor. (The Hotel is on the 4th). When we got to the 8th floor, it was apparent that this was a storage floor with garbage and boxes scattered all around. He walked over to a big steel locked gate, in front of another door. He unlocked the gate and opened the door and indicated this is my room. I looked inside and there was a dilapidated old (windowless) room which was about as appalling a room as I have ever seen. I said this is not what I paid for and I cannot stay here. We went back to the 4th floor and he was on the phone fr abut 10 minutes and then took me to a room on the 4th (across from where I attend last time) This room was better but not near as nice as the room I gave the great review for, previously. I asked why they would do such a thing as this, but their English was not good.
Expedia should contact this hotel and ensure nothing like this happens again.
I am a frequent traveler and like to stay in value type accomodations. Shin Shin Hotel, is all that. A large room, city view, and very clean and updated. I read the reviews and it seems most people were happy with their stay there. It is in a great location, easy access by taxi from the Taipai main station and many, many places to have delicious food nearby and easy access to the mrt. The lady at the reception is very lovely and friendly. I have booked another night there for my last day in Taiwan and am looking forward to going back!
My stay here was all to brief. Have stayed in building on different floor in different hotel. Same old building on the outside, but these rooms much nicer. The recent refit really makes a difference. Everything was near new and worked well. WiFi was fast and reliable. Bathroom was pristine and whole room impeccably clean. Sheets, towels etc, soft and scented. Very pleasantly surprised. Will stay here again.
Location is excellent. On the edge of the touristy part and a stone throw away from the old quarter - this really is a good place to base yourself in. With two metro stations a couple of minutes walk, everything in Taipei is within walking distance.
Enjoy.
I did !
Great location in the middle of everything from shops, to night markets, to Starbucks. 7-11 on ground floor made this a super convenient hotel for a new traveler
I was pleasantly surprised at the room. For an short-termed or single traveler this perfect. My room was only 4ft from hotel counter, don't ya just love these make shift hotels and I was worried about hearing noise. I only heard someone checkout once around 8:30 so that was good. I do hate that your room number on the key so be careful with it. Again, short stay this a no brainer, cost great, close to shopping and food, and bed is big and comfortable.
I've visited the other branch of shinshin, compare with zongshan, here is a little bit smaller but I love the style very much.the lady in the front desk is very polite and the service are very nice
For the price, it was great. The room size was just right, the bed, pillows, and blanket were so soft and comfortable and the bathroom, clean!

Really pungent smell around the hotel
There were some food stalls below the hotel that resulted in really bad, pungent smells even a few streets down. The hotel is on the 4th floor and the building it is in is rather run-down. The rooms were deecent, shower head was a peeling but it was fine. Could have provided proper liquid soap and shampoo. The room is rather small but normal for big cities. Rooms seemed newly furbished too. It is quite a walk to the MRT (About 10-15mins).
Clean, comfortable room with a nice view for someone visiting Taiwan for the first time! The room was next to a crossroad so a little noisy at night but that was a major issue. The only problem we had was that the phone in our room didn't work and had to use the reception phone to ring all of our friends to meet up. Very friendly staff though!
This place is a solid place to stay given the price at a busy time near Chinese New Year. It's on the 4th floor of an old-ish building across from the park. About 10 mins walk from Ximending station and 3-4 mins from the bustling shopping district. I'd suggest taking a cab if you carry heavy luggage (min charge, no ticks).
Overall I had a good stay, no real issues.
A few things to note:
- The elevator is a bit old, but works well and smoothly
- Front desk was polite and the cleaning lady was nice too
- Two bath towels have minor holes. You get what you pay for. They're clean so it was ok to me.
- Toilet window lets in some street noise but would rather keep it open
- The corner room felt spacious by budget standards. The queen bed was comfy enough for me
