Vineyards, quaint village churches and wine taverns contrast with the riverside museums and corporate behemoths that trace the history of Mercedes-Benz.

Museums, historic buildings and wineries sit on the sloping terrain of Untertürkheim. The district also has a rich automobile history, with the Daimler AG Corporate Headquarters and the museum of the company’s Mercedes-Benz brand. Try the local wine varieties and Swabian cuisine at the strausse (wine taverns).

Learn about the famous German engineering in the car galleries. Visit the Mercedes-Benz Museum and appreciate the building’s modern, vehicle-like architecture. See some of the 160 vehicles ranging from antique automobiles to flashy racing cars.

Watch a soccer game at the adjacent Mercedes-Benz Arena, where VfB Stuttgart plays. A little south are the enormous glassy buildings containing the dealers, factories and corporate headquarters of Daimler AG and its Mercedes-Benz brand.

The district has long been linked to growing wine. Understand the importance of wine in the region by taking a trip to the various taverns, such as Weingut Gerhard Zaiß and Weingut Hans-Peter Wöhrwag.

The outer part of the district is made up of vineyards and parkland. Ascend the scenic Württemberg Hill to reach the Württemberg Mausoleum. This is considered a romantic spot because it was made by King Wilhelm I as a tribute to his wife, following her untimely death. Admire the neoclassical columns and pediment, beneath a light blue dome. Snap photos of the surrounding vineyards from this vantage point.

Climb down the hill to find yourself in the quaint hamlet of Rotenberg and admire the 18th-century village church. In summer, bring your kids west to try the slides of the Inselbad Untertürkheim outdoor pool, which stands between two tributaries of the Neckar River.

Find the Untertürkheim neighborhood on the eastern flank of the Neckar River on the eastern outskirts of Stuttgart. Take a U-Bahn train to the Untertürkheim station and get around the area on foot. Visit nearby districts such as Bruckwiesen, Wangen and Ostheim.
