The Ghost village of Tyneham,Dorset. A compulsory purchase order was placed on the village by the MOD (Ministry of Defence) in 1943, as it was required for troop training for the future Normandy landings. All villagers were moved out, but never to return, as the MOD holds it to this day. #Ontheroad

This wonderful little Village was evacuated during the war when it was decided the whole Valley was needed for extra space to do Military training. The evacuations started in 1943.
