"Our flights out of Belize got delayed because of the weather and we ended up at the Fort George for the night. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone that needs a spot to stay and relax for the night. There was a lot of construction in the immediate vicinity, which suggested they are trying to draw more tourists. It is close to the water taxi, so the area seems more like a jumping-off point rather than a destination.
We had a great stay at the hotel, which was very comfortable, newly remodeled, beautifully designed and clean. We ate our meals there and some of the dishes were hit and miss. (Flatbread pizza was great! Risotto was way overcooked.)
We will definitely return for a night if needed to catch flights in and out of BZE. About 30 mins or $40 taxi ride to the airport. They have a shuttle that was great and is $15 per person, so a taxi was less for our family of 4."
"I loved this property! The room seemed to be recently renovated, everything was in excellent condition and very clean. The bed and pillows were super comfortable. The landscaping is designed to create a relaxing and calming atmosphere, which it does. The grounds are gated making it possible for anyone to enjoy sitting outside anytime without worrying about safety. There are to pools on site and we used the larger of the two every day. The staff is very friendly and an owner was usually around when we were there. It is a perfect base for exploring Belize City but also for excursions out of the city since it is close to the cruise ship terminal (they use tenders so no big cruise ships ruining the views or vibes) and to the water taxi terminal if you want to go to one of the islands or diving at the reef. Taxi and tour operators are easy to find on cruise ship days or the office can arrange them for you.
The onsite restaurant, Martha's, is wonderful. We sat out on the covered deck every day enjoying drinks or meals."
"Older hotel, large room, insufficient number of plugins for today, great breakfast, helpful staff, swimming pool and area needs some attention. Will pick up at airport for a fee. Very prompt service at airport pickup. Very good hotel stay for our family."
"Our stay here was for our honeymoon and it was perfect! Very peaceful, relaxing and accommodating. The staff was great. Justin and Ervin were great in the kitchen and bar service. The food was excellent and they were able to meet my wife's gluten free diet with every meal. Manager Barry is great and has stories for days. It really felt like a family more than a staff!!"
"Tarpon Sands exceeded every expectation and made our trip to Belize absolutely unforgettable. From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like family. Everyone was incredibly friendly, welcoming, and always happy to help with anything we needed. Their genuine hospitality made the entire experience even more special.
The food deserves a special mention—every meal was phenomenal! Having three delicious, home-cooked meals prepared fresh each day was such a treat. Every dish was flavorful, fresh, and made with care, and we looked forward to every breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
The facility itself was spotless and very well maintained. Everything was clean, comfortable, and thoughtfully cared for, making it easy to relax and enjoy every moment of our stay.
What truly sets Tarpon Sands apart is how accommodating they are. Whether it was helping with activities, making sure we were comfortable, or simply going the extra mile to ensure we had a great experience, the staff consistently exceeded our expectations.
If you're looking for a peaceful, relaxing getaway with exceptional service, amazing food, and a beautiful, well-kept property, I can't recommend Tarpon Sands enough. We left with wonderful memories and can't wait to return!"

One of the highlights of our stay was the incredible Belizean food, lovingly prepared by Yoli. Every meal was a treat, featuring local flavors and fresh ingredients. The rooms were clean and provided a comfortable, peaceful environment, perfect for unwinding after a day of adventure.
The staff at Belize Reef Escape were exceptionally attentive, always ready to help and ensure a wonderful experience. Excursions organized by the resort were a blast—snorkeling, kayaking, island hopping, and more. We highly recommend asking for Jay when booking excursions; he brings so much energy and fun to every trip, making each outing memorable.
It’s worth noting that there aren’t sandy beaches at the resort or on the island, but the clear blue waters, laying in the hammocks and reading our books and the amazing excursions more than make up for it. We did have some issues with the hot water in our room, but this may have been user error, and the staff was quick to address it. I’m confident it’s no longer an issue.
Overall, Belize Reef Escape on St Georges Caye is a fantastic destination for anyone looking for relaxation and authentic Belizean hospitality. Thanks to Nigel, Yoli, Cowl, Jay and Errol (my favorite) you guy"
