The place is crawling with huge roaches.the maintenance guy was amazing and right away fixed our problem but The manager was extremely rude. Personally im surprised shes a business owner, her customer service is terrible. I will never spend my money on this hotel and i do not recommend. You will waste your money.

We are sorry you were disappointed. However, you lost your key on the beach in the middle of the night. The manager came over at 2:30 am to get you into your room .but having tried to break in yourselves, the doorknob was severely damaged. She was unable open your door given the condition of the doorknob, but gave you the room next door at NO additional charge so you could at least get some sleep. In the morning, maintenance was able to open your original room so you could get to your personal items.

Older style property., well kept, everything functional. Very sociable with people sitting outside their rooms and chatting. Parking spaces a bit small but always found one ok. If on upper floor need to use stairs.

Retro means old. Built in 1972. Posted pictures did not reveal true-to-life circumstances. It was very clean and neat. Staff were very nice and professional. Restaurant very petite, but the food is fabulous. Hotel just wasnt what we wanted or expected. Had a great location. No ocean view except at restaurant,pool or parking lot. An economy hotel.

Looks like you enjoyed your stay. Yes, this was built in 1972. It is solid concrete and very well maintained. Most guests that stay here become repeat guests for all of the great reasons that you mentioned. We have been refreshing rooms over the last year to 18 months. At this point we only have a few rooms to refresh. We realize no place is everything to everyone but please continue to enjoy our Café when you are visiting South Padre Island. We thank you for your feedback.

Beautiful area. Great for walking. The rooms were small but quite adequate. Very quaint. My only issue was the listing that said heated outdoor pool. The pool area was nice, but definitely not heated.

Very happy you enjoyed your stay. Our pool is most definitely heated, we keep it at 84 degrees during the cooler months. Unfortunately, like the rest of Texas, our weather got very cold the week you arrived. The island got down to 30 degrees and the pool heater simply can't keep up when it gets that cold. Which gratefully is very seldom. The heater was turned back on the morning you arrived but it takes about a day and a half to get back up to 84 when. Sorry you were unable to enjoy the heated pool the day you were here.

Beach access was just steps away from of our room. Love the convenience of the restaurant downstairs. The food and staff are great! Room was very clean and property was calm and quiet. If I could change one thing about our stay it would be the pillows, which were very lumpy and not very comfortable. We didn’t think to ask for different ones, or bring our own. But we will stay again, when we re-visit South Padre.

The staff was very helpful when checking in. The Cafe has great food, staff is nice and a beautiful view of the beach. The cleaning crew was helpful and worked around our schedule. The security crew was also friendly! If it's too cold to jump in the ocean you have the heated pool. The location is great walking distance to several restaurants and bars. The room itself was very clean and the bed was comfortable. The building is an older building but everything worked fine! We will be back!

For being an old hotel the room was clean and no strange smell like other places ive stayed. Very comfortable, friendly staff. Food was good and did not have a need to leave the hotel so it was nothing but relax, enjoy the beach and watch the launch

This was a great place to stay. Very friendly staff and they cleaned our room daily. Restaurant below had great food. Best omelet we ever had. Nice pool and the beach is just a short walk away.

Cute place by the beach
The place was really cute and we got a nice room facing the beach. We stayed at the Palms because of the beach views & the cafe. Our only concern was that the coffee & breakfast at the cafe was not the greatest and it was really over priced for the quality.

I like the charm of small hotel and walking out to the beach. I do not like the busy, crowded parking lot. Views are not great making the room feel enclosed. Door to bathroom was in the way in a tight space and there are no area rugs by the bed and floor was too cold. The cafe is great but with limited seating. Second floor rooms have a better view because the 1st floor ones look out to the cars in the parking lot. The place is quiet at night and roomy with good sized refrigerator for those who stay longer. Clean and comfortable bed.

Older property. Could use a renovation but it was mostly clean, no bugs and everything worked. A/c was loud but worked well. Although has small kitchenette area, no cooking other than microwave. No silverware but couple plates and cups. There was leftover to go food in fridge but in fairness, I had a bottle of wine in there and didn’t see the to go container until about the third time I got in there. Restaurant on site and staff was great. I only had a drink so can’t comment on food. Set on beach side so easy to get in the sand. All drinks on patio and pool area must be bought from bar but prices were reasonable. Would not hesitate to stay here again as good value for money Bed was comfortable but pillows were not great. No ice machine but they sell ice for $3 a bag

Checking and cleaning the fridge is part of housekeeping's regular routine when cleaning a room after a check out. Clearly we dropped the ball this time. Our second stay here, really love the place. was told we would get daily housekeeping but we did not. parking area is a challenge for bigger vehicles. love the heated pool. the restaurant is wonderful—would especially recommend the the blackened red snapper or mahi!!!! did have bad service once from waitress—avoided using her after that

Stayed here two nights, first off, the staff are excellent. Couple key points, the beach out front is packed with people all day long and many cart their way in from vehicles or across the street. It is not “private” in any way because there is a public access beach ramp in the parking lot that everyone seems to know about. The public restaurant/bar can be very crowded too. Food is good, but upper price range. The pool is full of sand from everyone washing off from the beach instead of using the shower out by the walkway. Saw kids flat covered in sand hopping in the pool to rinse off. Room is pretty small with damaged and dated furniture. Front living room, half wall, bed, half wall, bathroom, strange layout. There were absolutely zero utensils or plates in kitchen. Nothing to put food on for the tiny microwave. Tiny bathroom and toilet with very low water pressure, no room around bathroom sink. Tub had been converted to walk in shower years ago and needed a hard scrubbing, very low shower pressure. WiFi works but TV had constant buffering problems. DO NOT try to bring a boat trailer, tight parking is very limited. I would rate this place expensive for what it provides, it’s just old and needs a facelift.

So happy our staff took good care of you. Our beaches are most definitely not private. Texas has an Open Beaches Act and cities and counties ensure that the public has free and unrestricted access to Texas beaches. The beach access adjacent to our property is on city property. South Padre Island has done an excellent job protecting this right and has public beach access approximately every two blocks. Some with parking and some without. Without a doubt our island beaches are busy during peak summer season. Particularly in July. September and October are excellent times to visit if you like a quieter atmosphere. The beaches are must quieter during the week and the weather and water are still very nice. Our Café is very popular and open to the public which can make it busy this time of year as well. We certainly do everything we can to discourage people from getting in the pool without rinsing first. A foot wash station and open shower are provided for use when coming off the beach and our pool is cleaned daily. All rooms are stocked with plastic plates, coffee cups and glasses. The Café can provide utensils upon request, or one can ask our front desk staff. We do not allow boats or trailers in either of our parking lots. Thank you for your feedback.
