The good: The staff is great, and for an older property the room was very clean and nicely updated. We had a balcony room and the balcony was spacious.
The not-so-good: the lobby is very strangely located, you cannot pull up to the lobby for check in like you do at other hotels. You will have to park out on the street and walk into the property to access the lobby. The onsite parking is behind the property, with no easy access to the rooms. Again, it’s easier to park on the street beside the property to get to your room rather than use their parking lot. Many of the rooms are on the second floor - there is NO elevator. Not so great if you have a lot of luggage or small kids. We had both. Combine that with the inaccessible parking, and getting up to the room was a pain. last, and worst of all in my opinion, this property is NOT on the beach and it does NOT have its own beach access. It’s on the opposite side of the very busy Main Street from the beach. It’s more than a half mile walk across a super busy street with no crosswalks. Again. Very inconvenient and unsafe if you have beach gear and kids. You’ll likely have to drive to the beach and hope you find a parking spot which are virtually nonexistent.
Moral of the story: the rooms are comfortable and clean, but the location and layout of the hotel are terrible if your goal is to have a beach weekend at Padre with your kids.
