One of the best experiences on the cozy boat Cutty Jean. Actually I do not know how to live in ordinary hotel now. When after breakfast you can dive into the sea directly from the boat, or read a book in the evening lying in the hammock with perfect views on the city. Of course there is not so much space on the boat, but that makes very cosy environment.
It was an amazing stay. Very romantic with beautiful scenry of the Malta. I really recommend if someone wants to have an actual experience of staying in a boat(Yacht). The Capt. and all the members were nice and welcoming. But please understand that this is an actual boat experience, not a normal hotel(small room, bathroom, etc...)
Captain Charles and his wife run a fantastic houseboat which makes a great change for a boring hotel. I spent the afternoon relaxing on the sun deck before being whisked off to Valletta by speed boat for the evening. Then after dinner called Captain Charles to again taxi us back to the houseboat for a night cap of Malt Whisky.
Simple the best night in Malta!
Was met with a warm welcome from owners Charles & Daria & there is a friendly family atmosphere on the boat.
Cutty Jean has lots of character as it was a working fishing boat. The cabin (room) was clean & comfortable. There is a buffet breakfast provided on deck which was perfect for relaxing especially with a drink in the evening.
Restaurants & cafes are all around & all the boats going around the island are close too, but its still quiet & peaceful on the boat.
The ferry to Valetta is a 5 minute walk away.
If I ever return to Malta I will definitely stay here again.
I wasn't sure what to expect about staying on a boat, but the MS Cutty Jean was a great place to do just that. I felt immediately welcome by the crew. If you are afraid of staying on boats because of sea sickness, don't worry - the rocking of the sea put me to sleep every night. The Cutty Jean was located right next to a bus stop, making it very easy to use public transportation to get around Malta. We were also very close to the cruises and day trips. I recommend staying here, I wish I could have had more time. I also recommend bringing a small bag or duffel, as the rooms are big enough to accommodate for sleeping. This isn't your typical hotel, but that's what I like about it. The Cutty Jean made my experience in Malta so much better.
As you would expect a boat to be - small and little headroom, so not ideal for the taller, larger person. Tiny toilet and separate shower - not like the one shown in the photos of the property. That aside, reasonably comfortable. Owners very hospitable. Nice continental style breakfast on the deck. Had booked a cabin but was given the room where the steering wheel/controls were which had a larger bed. However, there was no sink to wash my hands after the loo or to brush my teeth and, although there were curtains around und the bed area there were none along the main front window so I did not feel happy getting undressed for bed or changing into my swimming costume with the day trip boats going past. When I said I was not happy I was moved into a cabin which had a small sink and some privacy so was much better, although a bit claustrophobic. Great if you want something adventurous or a bit different but think carefully about bathroom arrangements. Obviously shared facilities and no paper allowed down toilet. I had to use the loos in the local shopping centre or fast food restsurants which is when I wished I had booked a hotel! Nice to meet other travellers for a chat if you are a single traveller.
Perfect location in Sliema, just 5 minutes walk from some nice
restaurants and bars, but still quiet. Beautiful views of Valletta
and a short walk to the ferry across the bay to Valletta or 20 minutes
walk to St Julian's Bay. Spotlessly clean cabin, lovely continental
breakfast spread. Our host Charles and his wife couldn't be more
friendly and went the extra mile to be helpful and look after their
guests.
Something totally different to one of the standard hotel rooms. Highly recommended!
Liebe Daria, lieber Charles,

Aamupala ok tasoa.
Kaiken kaikkiaan hyvä maku jäi kokemuksesta.
TERRIBLE - AVOID! This boats facilities are dire - no lock on your room, the shower or even the toilet. The cabin is too small to stand up in and the boat is not suitable for anyone wanting any type of privacy or security. Other guests were asking to leave the same day we did ! - avoid at all costs. I witnessed another traveler beg the owner to leave and him argue with her for 15 minutes to stay - it was very uncomfortable. Please note the current owners just purchased the boat so any old positive reviews are not for the current owner, though this does not take into account the general awfulness of the boat. When I complained to the boat owner after I left the boat after one night he was very rude and gave such baffling reasons for no locks or privacy as 'everyone on the boat is friends' and I quote "I remind our gentle guests this is the cutty jean... not an armed assault prone area" - so you heard it here folks - don't expect a lock on your door unless you are in a war zone! I was also told I should have booked the entire boat (4 cabins) if I wanted more privacy... words fail me.
Jens was incredibly welcoming and nice - the boat was very cool and was docked in a great location. Definitely would love to stay with them again wherever they are docked next in Europe!
If you want a unique experience in a place to stay then this is for you. The boat is docked in the harbor along the main street. It was a great location and easy to find. If you have a lot of luggage then you may have a problem fitting it in the room. The rooms are as pictured and very small (of course being a small boat). Also if you get sea sick you might want to take something before you get on in case the water is choppy. We had a good time talking with the other guests and staff.
You will be staying on a boat. Rooms will be small. However, experience is fabulous. View is fabulous. Location is fabulous. You get to interact with guests and owner. Missing a swimming pool? Jump off the boat and you are in the bay. Fully recommend this place.
The hosts made this stay exceptional, right from the extra efforts to make me comfortable and arrange an airport transfer, to the welcome drink, the personalized breakfasts, and the afternoon conversations. I planned the trip last minute, and wanted a comfortable place to stay and work, which the Cutty Jean certainly was. Within a 5 minute walk is the ferry to Valetta, island busses, cafes and restaurants, tour organizers, and shops.
Do be aware that this is a houseboat, so the rooms are small and intended for sleeping, and the toilet and shower facilities are shared. However there is ample of seating place both indoor and out to watch the ocean and views, read a book, sip coffee or a beer or a meal, or have lovely conversation with the owners and other travellers.
