Local dining at the Hideout Bar excellent food and breakfast just a 5 min walk away . Good for the open air theatre cricket club and peasholme park . "We booked late and knew the reviews weren’t great, but the stay was far worse than expected. Check in involved long queues, and when we finally got to our rooms, the rooms were doubles but should have been twins. Housekeeping couldn’t be reached and left a message as instructed, and when we returned later that evening, nothing had been changed. One room also had a strong drain smell. Reception told us housekeeping had finished at 3pm and that the hotel was fully booked, so no room move was possible. Their only “solution” was to spray a strong lemon scent, which didn’t fix the problem. The next day we were told the rooms would be changed to twins, but again, nothing happened. Breakfast was cold, so we cancelled breakfast for the following day. When we complained to the manager, we were told no refund or compensation could be given and that only the main manager could deal with it. The main manager wasn’t available the next morning, and we were told our breakfast refund would go through Expedia. Four days later when I contacted the hotel that we have not received the refund, we were informed it could take up to 21 days to receive the refund for the breakfast. Overall, the service, communication, and room standards were extremely poor."

"We do love this hotel but this time we had a guest join us in the bar for a drink. He uses a disabled scooter; we realised how poor the hotel is for disabled guests - the lift was broken from outside so we had to fiddle ourselves to fix it. The disabled toilet is upstairs but the lifts said no scooters allowed. This is obviously a real problem for disabled guests. Honestly, lovely hotel, great staff but needs a few tweaks."

"Room was very small and dated creaky floorboards and could hear everything from room next door. Very noisy from people leaving pub and revving motorbike outside room noise went on until the early hours if it wasn’t too late we would have left. Me and my partner never slept at all wouldn’t stay again"

"Lovely hotel ideally located for a short stay for RSPB Bempton. Only minor niggle was the room was very small and warm but being on the side of the main road it was far too noisy to have the window open. But it was exceptionally hot so maybe this isn’t a normal problem. Food in the restaurant was excellent as was breakfast. And worth noting the rooms are only serviced IF you’ve read the welcome folder and find the notice you have to leave on the door! Found it as we were checking OUT! Maybe mention this at check IN!"

The New Southlands Hotel

"On arrival we found out this hotel is mainly used for coach holidays.Bit of a Butlins break about the place. Room was very small and looked down into a yard full of beer barrels.At 7am every morning,a large steel extractor coming from kitchen burst into life and was so loud we had to shut the windows. In the bathroom the sink was damaged from something heavy being dropped onto it The shower was so small you couldn't bend down In the restaurant at breakfast,I asked where the croissant etc were.Head waiter looked bemused and the same when asked about fruit Would not recommend this hotel sorry"
