This review is a bit tricky because I think my expectations were different from what this property actually is.
We arrived around 11 p.m., and there wasn’t a single staff member at the front desk or anywhere on the property. It felt surprisingly deserted, which wasn’t the most reassuring first impression after a long day of driving.
I was also surprised to discover that all of the rooms have exterior entrances. I hadn’t realized this when booking, and personally I don’t love that style of accommodation because it feels more like a motel than a traditional hotel.
It’s clear that this was once an older motel that has been thoughtfully renovated. The design is clean, modern, and stylish, and the renovation team did a good job updating the aesthetic. That said, details like the popcorn ceilings and a lingering musty smell reminded me of the building’s age.
Looking back, I think I could have enjoyed the property if I’d gone in with different expectations. It feels like a well-designed, upgraded motel that would appeal to hikers, road-trippers, and people who plan to spend most of their time outdoors exploring Sedona. Based on the photos, descriptions, and overall rating, however, I was expecting something that felt more elevated and more like a boutique hotel.
If you know what you’re booking, you may really enjoy it. It just wasn’t quite what I had envisioned based on the ratings, reviews and photos.
