This lodge is in a beautiful setting! It has a very interesting historic bar and resort adjacent. The bar is open for limited hours on the weekends and often has live music. Photos of the resort in its heyday are in the lobby. It’s very close to two small mountain towns with lots of restaurants and hiking. We stayed for three enjoyable nights.

Very unique property. Spacious room. Ate in classic “diner”. Peeked into spacious lounge area -separate building with fireplace fire where they had a bar/lounge. Mini market down by the rooms. Our room had a very long walk out on balcony with a small table and 2 chairs. Not sure why but this rate was less than most in the area. Fantastic!

Where to begin? 1) Power went out in the middle of the night for at least 4 hours. This is a big problem for me because I can't sleep without a CPAP machine. One might think that this is a rare occurrence, but the house across the alley has a backup generator, so power outages likely occur frequently—no apology offered in the morning. 2) Even before the power went out, the A/C stopped working. There was no maintenance available (in fact, no one at all to contact). So we opened the windows, but that let in more noise. 3) We rented a "patio room" but the patio was a piece of concrete looking out on a gravel pad with an ugly wall beyond it. On the other side of the room was a narrow parking lot with an alley behind it. 4) The photos on Expedia showed what appeared to be an attractive rustic property, but the rustic decor must have been in the restaurant that was closed. The area is very rustic and woodsy, but the building is an ugly monstrosity that is totally out of character with the area. 5) Bathroom: The shower had two shower heads, one on each end. One didn't work. The other sprayed in all directions, with little going in the right direction. The sink faucet was loose. There was a spider web in the corner. The tissue dispenser had two pieces of tissue, and that was it. 6) The beds, while not too uncomfortable, had seen better days. 7) More picyune: Things just seemed dreary at make-shift

This is an average motel with some maintenance and staffing issues. We stayed two nights and the first night was fine but when we came back for the second night, we found the soggy towels still on the bathroom floor and the beds unmade. I didn’t expect new towels and sheets, but I did expect some basic freshening up. Front desk says that only happens after three days!

This spot reminded me of the motels I used to stay at with my family in the 70’s. I think rustic would best describe it. Pros: The surrounding area is gorgeous with lots of hiking and redwoods. The restaurant and bar next to the motel just went through a renovation and are pretty nice. They could use more items on the menu, but I guess that’s in the works. There’s plenty of restaurants nearby. The inside of the rooms are clean. The price is fair. Cons: I booked a room with 2 double beds for the 4 of us (2 adults and 2 teens). We could barely fit in the beds and my son actually ended up sleeping on the floor because a cot isn’t up to the fire code. There was only 1 chair on the balcony. Spiderwebs and old cigarette buts on the roof outside the balcony. No towel racks. The light around the mirror inside the bathroom was like an interrogation light and couldn’t be turned off. You can hear every footstep. Overall the price and the location made it worth it. Would’ve been better if we got 2 queen beds. That was my oversight.

Don't let the outside fool you, although it looks a little run down the rooms are nice and very spacious. Get the room with a balcony and you can enjoy some fresh air without worrying about anyone looking in your room :)

Loved the historical context of this place. You can tell it had it's good times and now is aged out of much of it's glory. Some rooms were better than others. We stayed Monday and Tuesday so the lodge was closed. The view from patio was nice from top but kind of loud. It was a decent place to stay for a couple nights to see the area.

This is a nice stop for exploring the redwood forests of Henry Cowell and other State Parks nearby. It’s nestled in the redwoods in small mountain towns. It’s not walkable to other places. The lodge rooms are large and the beds were comfortable. The bathroom was clean.
