Not for the average US guest

I arrived late at night. The night watchman let me in. When he opened the door at the street I was alarmed to see what looked like a rather messy backyard, with a large tent-like structure and a concrete chiminea, as well as drums, odd sculptures and used mats lying about. He took me to a ground floor room and I was alarmed to see that it had no windows except for a large one that that had to remain curtained because it looked out to the indoor sitting area I had just walked through. The next day I asked to be moved to a room with windows. I learned that the structure outside was an aztec sweat lodge and the chiminea heated the rocks that were used in the sweat lodge. This was not what I had expected for the money I paid. Most of the other guests were there for the weekend and several of them were surprised by the place. It was not what they expected. I was there for two an a half weeks, often the only guest. The manager and the maids were very nice. I became a part of their family. My main complaint was that the WiFi was frequently out of service as were the US channels on the TV. The place was clean, the staff were lovely. The pima cotton sheets were fabulous and the choice of pillows appreciated. It was a strange place that would appeal to some but I think most US guests would be alarmed. It was Not what one would call a luxury hotel. I probably would not stay there again but I'd go by to say hello to the lovely staff.

This property has an artistic set up. Manager Rumulu is very friendly and informative, he introduced the city and showed us around the property which has a patio on rooftop and an Aztec cleansing spot. Nearby parking is a rip-off (30 pesos each hour), if you are lucky you can get a spot along the street for free. Or, the property manager can get you one for 200 pesos which is a few blocks away. The room is clean and sound proof. Continental breakfast included coffee/tea, bread and fruits. Anything additional cost extra.

Romulus was extremely helpful, picked us up from the airport, showed us the immediate area and helped when we needed, prepared to go the extra mile as we could not speak Spanish. The breakfast staff and other staff were very friendly and helpful too. Thank you!

Romulo and his caring staff go above and beyond to treat their guests as family! The room and the house were thoroughly cleaned daily. The breakfasts were prepared to your liking. The spa services were offered, but our schedule didn't allow us time to take in any of them. We highly recommend Casa Holistic, with its central location and excellent services to all who visit San Miguel.

Lovely, friendly, one negative to easily avoid

The only negative is with being in a particular room. The positives are many. In terms of location, cleanliness, friendliness, food and thoughtfulness like ample electrical outlets, soft sheets, comfy bed & Wi-Fi, I give this place high marks. The manager, Romulus and everyone who works there goes out of their way to make people feel welcome and at home. It is like staying with a very kind friend of the family. Only negative, in my opinion is that if you book here, be sure not to book Junior Suite Amatista. Unlike other rooms, it has no windows & no ventilation & the only way to avoid being in a stuffy, hot room, even in the cool temperatures of October, is to constantly run a very loud floor AC unit. I would definitely return to this B&B, but would never again stay in that room. I mentioned this while I was there but it was during Dia de los Muertos and all other rooms were occupied with other guests so no possibility of changing. Also, be aware that breakfast starts at 9am and since I had a class starting at 9am each day, I rarely got breakfast.
