Nice property with clean rooms and friendly staff. Had an issue with new restaurant that was recently added but maitre’d was very helpful and addressed our issue. Also liked that there were quite a few dining options within walking distance of the resort. Also, the beach and pool areas were great. Overall, I’d recommend this place

The majority of the staff was extremely courteous and welcoming. Eimy at the front desk treated us like family, and the female supervisor over food and beverage provided exceptional service in accommodating my food allergies. Brenda and Wanda in Aleli were excellent waitresses. The staff at Oceans Pool Bar were great as well. Meals were a little pricey but the food quality was above standard. There were several dining options in walking distance that were reasonably priced. The ocean side view on the 16th floor was everything one could ask for on a vacation. The proximity of the beach was a huge plus. Comfortable bed, huge shower, and updated rooms. The renovation was done well.

The location of the hotel is first rate. It is right on the beach, which is one of the best beaches I've visited. Very easy to navigate the hotel, pool area, beach, restaurants. Staff are incredibly friendly and accommodating. This was my second trip to the Royal Sonesta in San Juan. I hope there is a third!

The bathroom was dirty. The hotel room itself needs to be updated. There was no microwave to warm up your food. For the price point, the hotel should have been in better shape. never again!

Our stay at the Royal Sonesta in San Juan was nothing short of exceptional! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm hospitality and a seamless check-in process. The location of the hotel is perfect—just steps away from the stunning Beach and within walking distance of fantastic dining, shopping, and cultural attractions. The hotel itself is beautifully designed, combining modern luxury with a touch of Puerto Rican charm. The rooms are spacious, immaculate, and offer breathtaking views of the ocean or the city. I loved waking up to the sound of the waves and the gentle breeze—such a refreshing start to each day! The amenities at the Royal Sonesta are top-notch. The pool area is gorgeous, and I spent hours lounging there, soaking up the sun with a refreshing cocktail in hand. The beach access is incredibly convenient, and I couldn’t get enough of the golden sands and crystal-clear waters. What really sets this hotel apart, though, is the service. Every staff member—from the front desk to the housekeeping team—was friendly, accommodating, and truly went above and beyond to make my stay unforgettable. Special shoutout to the concierge team for their excellent recommendations on local activities and dining spots! We can’t recommend the Royal Sonesta enough. Disappointed – Not a True Resort Experience I’m truly disappointed with The Royal Sonesta in San Juan for several reasons. They charge a resort fee, yet nothing about this hotel feels like an actual resort. To start, check-in isn’t allowed until after 4:30 PM, and if you need a late check-out, you’re charged an additional $150. Despite branding themselves as a resort, all the on-site restaurants close shockingly early—one at 8 PM, another at 9 PM, and the last by 10 PM. The bar closes at 10:30 PM, although one night it shut down even earlier, at 10 PM. There’s no entertainment, no evening activities, and nothing to do after dinner. The pool is very basic, and while the beach is beautiful, the only real “resort-like” amenities are beach towels, chairs, and umbrellas. I was particularly disappointed by the lack of dining and nightlife options. The food at the restaurants was underwhelming, and although the pool bar had decent food, it was overpriced. The drinks were also nothing special just expensive.Cleanliness was another major issue. Housekeeping didn’t arrive until after 4 PM, and when they did, they barely cleaned just made the bed. During our stay, we saw roaches in the room and had to be moved. Other guests mentioned ant problems in their rooms as well.Also worth noting be prepared for an extra hold for a resort fee, which isn’t clearly disclosed upfront. Unfortunately, this hotel didn’t live up to the Sonesta standard and I will not return.

This hotel is exactly what you’re looking for when you’re going on a vacation with your family to Puerto Rico. I have been going to this hotel for over 15 years and I’m never disappointed. The pool area and beach area is outstanding. The pool chairs and beach chairs are clean umbrellas are always available and the access to the beach is phenomenal. The ocean breeze restaurant on the beach has good food. I wish the food was a little less over cooked. We found that the chicken wings for a very, very, very extra Crispy to the point of hurting your teeth, but it was still edible. We still like to have access to the food nearby, so wish the food quality would go up a little bit, and if there were more options to eat at the ocean breeze restaurant, especially for children. The breakfast buffet in the morning was amazing my family really enjoyed the Sotos and the egg omelettes and coffee we went there almost every morning the room location and view was spectacular, but we would’ve liked the bathroom to be a little more updated. We found that the shower floor was a bit yellow and could use some renovation in room 918 and the mirror was chipped around so update could’ve been done especially that the room is over $300 a night, but the cleanliness was perfect in the room. The bed was comfortable and the size of the room was very very nice for a family with considering all of these aspects. We found that many people in the hotel we’re looking for some type of live music

Everything was going okay, until I realized how rude some of the staff are, especially the waiter for the breakfast buffet. They hover over your bill to see if you’re going to tip, if not they give you attitude and snatch pens off your table after you sign. In addition, guest were vaping in the pool near children and the property didn’t enforce the wristband policy so anybody can walk on the property and be in the pool or other areas. My guest caught ringworm from the jacuzzi/pool area, the pools aren’t cleaned/drained thoroughly, literally watch people put their sneakers in the jacuzzi to get the dirt off of their shoes and then go about as if nothing happened. Then to top it off, for my guest getting ringworm, a resort fee was offered as refund for 2 days, flight gets delayed on the last day and the resort fee was taken back to help us have a late checkout to avoid paying more money for it. Stay away from the Royal sonesta.
