Alma is a visually stunning hotel, with beautiful design and excellent dining at Andaluz and Mar y Rosa. The food, drinks, and atmosphere are all top-tier.
However, for the price, the overall experience fell short. My mom and I stayed for 8 nights, and despite the beauty of the space, the execution was lacking. Our room was never serviced earlier than 3:30pm, sometimes not at all. This appeared to be a widespread issue due to understaffing, not the fault of the hardworking housekeeping team.
Noise was another major issue. There’s no soundproofing, so expect to be woken by other guests well into the night. The hotel advertises as family-friendly, but this is categorically false. You will absolutely overhear intoxicated guests returning to the hotel (we overheard multiple drunken arguments well past 3am). You can also hear any and all activity in the rooms next to yours.
There’s no visible security presence. The keycard systems in place (in the elevators and main entrance) weren’t being used. Anyone could enter the building and access guest floors. Additionally, rooms lack deadbolts, which felt unsafe.
We also noticed signs from nearby residents criticizing the hotel for noise and disruptive guests. While managing guest behavior is tricky, the lack of control impacts both locals and other visitors.
In short, while Alma is beautiful and has great food, but it didn’t deliver the comfort, peace, or service expected at its price point. I can’t confidently recommend it.
