Loved our stay, amazing old building, and lovely hosts - like staying with friends. Quirky rooms in a great location.
On a business trip to Saintes with the family, the Red Door Inn is located right in the heart of town, with beautiful old building and quaint streets. We used the secured underground parking just a 5 minutes’ walk away and left the car there for a few days. The house is very traditional and full of character, the room was a good size, very comfortable, warm and homely. The owners were very friendly and helpful. We will stay there again if we return to Saintes.
We were driving from the UK to the south west of France and wanted somewhere to stay en route. What a wonderful surprise this place was. The house is a big, beautiful, old (really old!) property with very generous rooms and lovely ensuite bathrooms. The hosts are very welcoming and generous. Saintes - who knows why that big town is not more widely known as a tourist destination. Incredible architecture, lovely river walks, greta places to eat.
And the best bit - we have 2 large excitable dogs who were allowed to stay too!
I cannot recommend this place more highly.
This B&B is easy to find by foot on Rue de Jardins. It's a 14th century townhouse owned by an American expat family. Armand is bilingual and very informative regarding the sites to see in Saintes. She is also a delightful and attentive host, and a textile artisan to boot! My room was ample in size, rustic with a beamed ceiling, and a sizeable in-suite bathroom. Breakfast was served in her wonderful garden, in the shadow of Saint-Pierre Cathedral. I would definitely stay here again. Thanks Armand!
We booked this accommodation very late in the day and after a quick phonecall to the property after making the booking, we were given clear instructions on how to get there. The owners waited for us and directed us to their property.
We were given a very warm welcome after a very long day. The property is very quirky which we absolutely loved. The bedrooms in the property were very clean and very well presented.
We were given very good reccommendations by the owners for food and drink and both were excellent.
We loved our stay there and enjoyed talking with the owners about the property over a fresh french breakfast.
Thank you Armande, Monique and Jim!!

Quirky
If you like old and quirky this will be ok for you. Charming hosts but the Madame was unwell and the promised parking had been flooded. Out of season visit so it would have been better if they cancelled and we found an alternative. The room is on top floor of a period home,it is bnb not a hotel. Room- no headboard, no bedside tables, no tea/ coffee/ kettle, no lock on door- 2 flights of stairs to access. Parking on street nearby very expensive and not secure. We stayed 2 nights and it was a question of topping up the machine - around €40. No pool or restaurant as listed by hotels.com.( we didn’t require either but it is misleading). We are English, period buildings very common to us, we have lived in several much older! On the plus side it was nice and warm as weather freezing and you can take dogs.
Quirky and eclectic. This cute little bnb is run by a lovely couple and their daughter. Very helpful with perfect English. They found a local vet for us to see for our return trip.
Lovely 16C old house in the centre of Saintes bags of character and very friendly, informative hosts.
A little rickety due to its age but this just adds to the charm.
Bottom line is that we would be happy to visit again.

The propritors Monique, Jack and Armond were wonderful. So helpful and kind. Loved our bedroom in this 500 year old home. We were right in the old centre of town. We walked every where in this enchanted midevil town.
