The Round Tower is a 15th-century fortification of Tudor design on the southern end of the Portsmouth Harbour. Overlooking the sea, the site’s roof is open to visitors, providing excellent views of the water and the surrounding Old Town. Visit the Round Tower to watch the boats pass by in the busy port from the viewing platform on the rooftop.

The Round Tower has a rich and intriguing history. The stone structure from the 1400s replaced an earlier wooden model constructed to defend against French raids.
Go on a coastal walk along the scenic Millennium Promenade. On a pleasant day, climb to the top of the tower for views stretching as far as Gosport and the Isle of Wight. With luck, you’ll spot an iconic ship or submarine passing by on the water.
The tower is today part of the Hotwalls Studios, showcasing an array of art exhibits.
Access to the rooftop viewing deck is free it is open to the public at all times. The interior is open only occasionally. On these open days, venture inside the attraction and admire its 19th-century vaulted brick ceiling.
The Round Tower marks the southern boundary of Portsmouth Harbour in the Old Town district. Take a bus to a nearby stop or walk here from the heart of the harbor area.
