Hotel Stay Review: 3/5 Stars – Mixed Experience
The core issues were cleanliness and technology, contrasting with a great room size and helpful staff.
Positives
Room Size: The room was nicely large and spacious.
Check-in: The check-in process was quick and uncomplicated.
Early Morning Staff: A staff member preparing breakfast early was crucial on my day of early departure. Although I had informed the hotel of my early flight, I had no clear instructions for key drop-off. I only knew where to put the room card because this helpful individual was available.
Areas for Improvement
Cleanliness (Major Concern): Housekeeping was seriously lacking. Lower body hair was left in the bath/shower area and on the bathroom floor.
Connectivity: The in-room technology was difficult to use. It took a long time to connect the TV to both the internet and then to Freeview. Separately, the Wi-Fi speed was slow when connected to my phone.
Bathroom Design: The bathroom basin felt uncomfortably low.
Other Notes
I did not use the pool during the stay and therefore cannot review that facility.

Convenient location. Small kitchenette with fridge, kettle, toaster, pot, pan, utensils etc.. 👍 No complimentary small ctn of milk to go with the drink satchets though 🙄
TV but no free channels or sky 👎
Upon entry the room was tidy but once ur sitting down and looking around.... Kitchette drawers and cupboards, greasy prints everywhere 🫣
Shower was terrible. No extractor fan. Weak water pressure and the lake of water that ends up outside the shower when ur done. New shower heads and longer length glass would be good.
Also advertising spa pools (what sold them for me!!)and not 1 onsite just a cold, needed a good vacuum, pool.
On arrival we were asked, because we paid upfront online, that a $100 bond is required which we'd get back upon check out. Never experienced that before and what is the point for 1 night? Went to check out around 8.20ish.. Still closed, no staff anywhere. Rang the emergency # numerous times only to ring once then be rejected. Terrible service. Staff member finally shows up
but can't process my refund. We go away and return a few hours later. Staff member had processed the refund.
Over all experience with the Imperial Hotel, Rotorua ⭐️⭐️⭐️
The room was so clean and spotless, and very well presented on arrival- the kids also enjoyed the use of the pool while we were here. We will definitely be back again!
The stay was good but perhaps bit of improvement on customer service would be good, we ran out of coffee/tea but had to call the staff 3 times before it was being delivered and we wanted to have a swim but the swimming pool was not very clean.
Thanks.
If you are going to stay in Rotorua just spend the money and get something nice. Need to hire a new cleaner, room was barely clean and had stains on the toilet seat, the beds were horrible and hard, sheets were stained. We had an internal door to another room so it felt very unsafe. Very noisy, you can hear everything going on in the other rooms, there was banging and yelling at 2am which kept me up. Did not feel comfortable staying here at all.
Newly renovated room, very spacious. Great beds and all utilities are brand new.

Liked: Cleanliness
Disliked: Amenities
Shower barely worked, had to take like 30 min or more to get enough water on the body for a wash. Rooms are small but clean. I felt it was it bit expensive for what it was. The continental breakfast was only available if you paid for it in advance which wasn't really worth it if you did. They at least could have made coffee and tea free for all in the cafeteria for the morning. There were little tea packets in the room you could have made yourself but it costs almost nothing to make a few fresh pots of coffee in the morning for your guests and it's far better than a stale 6 year old tea packet.
The room was in good condition, however when we went to do our washing in the washing rooms that are provided, the hotel had left dirty linen in the washing machine. We were also only provided with 1 key to get in and out of the room whilst our booking was for 3 people, I feel like we should’ve had 2 at the very least.
There was also no body wash in our showers.
My bond was also not given back to me. I paid $805 for the room, was never told that id have to pay a bond, and once we got there I had to pay a $100 bond which I never got back.
The shower was dirty with hair on the floor as well as what looked like conditioner.
Tv didn’t work properly & could only watch to channels.
Reception don’t even know how much I paid for the room.
No communication about how to access amenities & it was very noisy. You could easily hear conversations being had in the room next door. It sounded like I was staying in a hostel. I certainly wouldn’t be calling it a hotel.
The kitchen was dirty, fingermarks all over the copboards. hadnt been cleaned since the previous people no dish cloth or plug to do the dishes. Bathroom terribly small, in general, not the cleanest. beds were too hard, had a cheek to take bond off us when the place wasnt upto scratch, dirty outside
