We spent a wonderful week with another couple. The royal level is amazing. They made sure our rooms were close and we had everything we could possibly need. The beach is perfect and the bar was great Sayonara Mateo and Enrique Reyes were superb. They learned our routines in a day and we never had to ask they just know what you want. The beloved restaurant was top notch. The team Hipolito Perez Mariana Sano Wendy Pena made sure every meal was inviting and the food was excellent. We had a perfect relaxing vacation.

When we got there, the room wasn’t ready till well past 6pm. The resort had no water bc of a water main break and the public bathrooms were basically overflowing with urine and feces bc the toilets couldn’t flush. I had 4 rooms booked and they messed up everyone’s room and we had to keep going back to get our room keys reactivated bc every time they activated a key, it deactivated another key. The food was horrible. And when I say horrible, that is an understatement. My daughter ended up in the hospital. It cost us 350$US just to see the resort doctor and then he sent us to the hospital where it cost another 5000$ and 700$ to change her flight to leave early to go back home to Canada where she was diagnosed with salmonella poisoning. And instead of refunding our money for her last 3 days, they put someone else in her room that was already paid for and double dipped off of us. My daughter and one of our friends spent 3 days throwing up and diarrhea before they went home to see a proper doctor. The hair dryer in my son’s room was sparking and catching fire. After waiting 45 mins for someone to come, they shut the power off and cut the cord bc the dryer is hardwired into the wall. No one seemed concerned. The bedroom curtains are full of black mould. The housekeeper snapped my son’s phone charger out of the wall and we had to throw it out. The buffet food was very questionable so we tried using the specialty restaurants and they were disgusting. There’s so much more.

Very nice resort for the price. I've stayed at better resorts, but not at this price point. Food in the main buffet was only OK, but the specialty restaurants were all very good. The staff speaks very little English, so be prepared for a language barrier if you don't speak Spanish.

​The resort itself was beautiful and very clean, but unfortunately the staff was neither welcoming nor friendly. Getting service felt like pulling teeth. On several occasions, my wife and I sat at the bar for 30 mins without being acknowledged. When I was finally served, the staff didn't speak any English and simply stared at me as if I had five heads. This was surprising since the website claims multiple languages are spoken however, we only encountered three people who spoke English during our entire stay.The constant solicitation was also incredibly annoying. People would follow us from one side of the resort all the way to the lobby offering "gifts" to sell us something, even after we repeatedly said we weren't interested. Additionally, the food options were very limited and did not meet my expectations.The resort has so much potential, but the staff truly brings the experience down. When walking by employees, there is no eye contact, no greeting, and not even a smile.The final straw occurred the day before our departure. We went to the lobby to arrange our transportation, as instructed. The staff member I believe her last name was Ramirez was no help at all. Despite being given all the necessary information, she claimed she couldn't do anything because the number was "not in service" and told us we had to figure it out ourselves. I then called that exact same number myself and set everything up while she was on her cell phone At that point, i was done with the vacation.

Beautiful property, service was amazing. The food is not the best but we weren't really there for the food. There was a lot of Seaweed on the beach, the first few days it looked like it was cleaned up but the last 2 says of our visit there was so much on the beach that we just went to the pool.

Grounds are kept immaculate. Good variety of food options. Staff is hit or miss as far as friendliness goes. Pools are beautiful and clean with lots of chair availability. Would definitely go back!

It was my second time in a Barceló and I was not expecting such a terrible experience. The food was awful (I got food poisoning during my stay), drinks are clearly mixed with water and low quality. The restaurants offer a really bad dining experience - in one of the restaurants, I literally took 15 minutes to eat a 3 course dinner, because of the size of each plate. The waiters take a long time to take your orders and many times forget, so you have to remind them (in the 4 restaurants I went, I always asked for a second drink and never got it). Sometimes it looked like they were doing us a favor. The rooms were dirty, with a lot of humidity and smelled like a sewer. Regarding the beach, they had rules written that you could not reserve the beach beds but everyone did it, so by 10 am you could not get one (and the beach was almost empty). The “vigilantes” at the beach saw that and did nothing. Also, the activities scheduled are unreliable. Also, don’t get fooled by the pictures you see on the internet, as these were clearly taken several years ago. If you want to have a vacation on a budget, I’m sure there are better quality options out there.

I love the beach and their pool! The food and drinks were okay and the rooms were very spacious and clean. Could use some upgrade though. The staff were helpful and friendly. Over all we had an amazing time at Occidental Punta Cana and would recommend this place to my friends and family! I would love to come back here!
