2 star room on a 4 star resort - Just returned from a 5 day, 4 night stay at the Lifestyle Tropical resort in Puerto Plata, DR. Lots to say, starting w/ the positives:
1. The resort itself, especially the beach area, is beautiful & well taken care of
2. Staff is super friendly & helpful
3. The spa experience was excellent
Areas that need significant improvement:
1. The toilet was broken and needed to be plunged by maintenance staff every day
2. The shower water was lukewarm at best every day
3. The towels in the room were old and poor quality
4. The sliding door to the patio didn't close all the way, it let in bugs even when locked
5. Metal pieces of furnishings (e.g., closet door handles) were very rusty
6. Wood furnishings (e.g., desk) were badly scuffed and in poor condition
7. Some days the "new" sheets placed on the bed had stains
8. The room had a mildewy odor
With respect to the toilet, after complaining that it did not flush and got stuffed, we were told not to flush toilet paper, that no one in the DR does this. That is false, everyone flushes toilet paper. But we even tried this anyway and the toilet still got stuffed. Clearly it was broken.
We were also charged an additional $265 because our son, who stayed with me & my wife in our room, was 15 years old and therefore an adult. Firstly - I was not prompted when booking to enter his age. Secondly - 15 years of age is not an adult. We asked repeatedly for refunds due to all the above and were denied.
