"Great selection at breakfast Staff were super friendly"

"Avoid at all costs. The photos online are completely misleading and do not reflect the actual condition of this hotel. We ended up leaving the same day and forfeiting our money because staying here simply was not an option. The first red flag was at check-in. The front desk demanded payment of the city tax in cash only, despite many other hotels in the area accepting cards. There is no ATM on-site, so guests are forced to walk a couple blocks before they can even check in. We were also told we could not take our room keys outside and had to leave them at the front desk every time we left. The room was extremely hot, dirty, and poorly maintained. There was splatter on the walls, stains on the sheets and curtains, dirt on the floor, and thick black mold in the shower. The AC did not cool the room down at all in the time we sat in the room. The location did not feel safe, especially at night, and there was constant noise from traffic and honking outside. After seeing the room, we decided to leave that same day. When we asked to check out, the staff became combative and refused any refund or even a partial refund. Only afterward did we notice the many negative reviews describing similar experiences. One of the worst hotel experiences we’ve ever had."

The Hoxton Rome

"The best parts of the Hoxton were its breakfasts and personnel, plus available free boxed water. The desk staff serve as part-time concierges, and one helped us plan and execute a visit to the Castell San Marco on our last full day. That said, the hotel is a bit out of the way for most central-Rome tourism. In our case, the disruption of the Giro di Roma (apparently Italy's version of the Tour de France, but with hordes of day bicyclists, amateurs and families) made it impossible for our driver to get to the Capitoline Museums directly, thus forcing us to make a long walk (partly subsurface along the Tiber) to get where we wanted to go. The worst thing about the Hoxton is the plumbing. The shower consistently cycled from burning hot to cold at regular intervals, regardless of the setting of the temperature valve, and apparently regardless of the type of day. The bidet, like many in Italy, makes it hard if not impossible to wash your bum. (How can Italy be so far behind Japan, which has great working bidets even in public toilets?)"

"How this is a 4 star hotel is bemusing. One of the worst hotels I have ever stayed in. Advertise with a restaurant and a bar on its own website and on Hotels.com website amazing as both have been closed for 5 years. The corridors were filthy. Carpets were disgusting. All surfaces in the room were full of dust. Leaking toilet so water all over the floor. Double room was 2 single beds pushed together. No facilities in the room. Staff not interested. If we had known there was no restaurant or bar we would not have booked. Please avoid booking this hotel as you will be extremely disappointed."
