This was the 3rd time we have stayed at La Reserve and we were very excited to be back. In the past, I would have always given La Reserve 5 stars but something was off this year. Our studio was lovely and had all the amenities that we expected. But there was a definite difference in the way La Reserve was managed this time. While we expected to enjoy a continental breakfast, we were disappointed in the offerings. It seemed like the baked items could have been picked up at Costco and just put on a sideboard. We felt as if we were annoying the staff when asking about milk. During the breakfast hours one morning, a handyman came in and dropped off his supplies right behind us. Then proceeded to hang around the kitchen door while the guests were trying to have a quiet breakfast. The table linens had crumbs and the coffee and tea water were not hot. We were so disappointed that on our last full day at La Reserve we chose to walk to a lovely cafe, Good Karma Cafe, and have a light breakfast there instead. Later that same day, I discovered that one of our unused towels for showering was either dirty or stained but I needed to use it as it was all that was available at the moment. I did receive a replacement but by then we were leaving for the day. Separately, these seem like minor issues, but together it felt like a pattern of losing focus on the guests. We aren't sure if we'll stay at La Reserve again, but for now, sadly, we won't be recommending it to family or friends.
