Old school rustic in need of updating

the good: friendly service, beautiful location, quiet, clean with a unique retro vibe. the bad: in serious need of updating. had a very small old analog TV. Carpet was very worn, had a very musty odor. coffee pot did not work, my curling iron would not work, there was no hair dryer. water pressure was practically non-existent. Breakfast consisted of boiled egg, yogurt and pre-packaged pastry. They advertised daily maid service, but we did not receive any during our 3-night stay. It's really a shame because the property is unique and with a little updating, I feel this could be a great place to stay. We would not stay here again unless changes are made.

Feeling slighted at the Birchwood Inn

I booked and paid for a Birch room more than a month before my stay. I was attracted by the photos of the room on the website and the description indicating, "Northern lodge decor with real birch paneling....countryside view." Unfortunately, when I entered the room after check-in, I discovered I was assigned a Pine room, which is next-level downgrade from a Birch room. When I brought this to the attention to the motel staff, they said that although it is a Pine room, they had placed two queen beds in the unit, so now they are assigning it as a Birch room, even though there is no "countryside view or real Birch paneling." For a Pine room, the unit was fine, but this is not what I booked, and why I paid a higher price for an actual Birch room. Also, how would the motel know if the size of the beds was a deciding factor in my room selection?.....which it was not. The view outside my room consisted of facing other motel units, not "countryside." Just because you swap two double beds for two queen beds, that doesn't satisfy the unit as a complete next-level upgrade room. I voiced my disappointment to the motel staff on two occasions during my stay, but they never offered any kind of resolution. I checked-out feeling slighted, because I received less of a room than what I paid for and expected.

This is an older property. It has an “up north” vibe. The curtains did not do a good job of blocking out the lighting from the court yard. The water pressure in the shower was very low. Very clean with friendly staff but a very dated property. Close to Nub’s Nob Skiing so the lovation

For the price this is a good deal. It is a C hotel because of its age and overall condition and lack of amenities but it is quaint and clean and safe. Staff are friendly.

The roof of the room leaked water all the time. The shower drain was clogged such that the water from a shower did not go down the drain fast enough and it filled up with dirty soapy water.

would only give it a 2 rating, could be 5 if updat

room was very out dated, the drapes would not close, the bathroom tiles were all moldy, the toilet would not flush, the bathroom sink would not drain. old analog TV. The coffee maker did not work. needs a lot of TLC. The people were very fine, very cordial, but the rooms need a lot of revamping. It is in a very lucritive location, and looks like it used to be quite high end, just never kept up.

Our stay was fine. The continental breakfast was not what I was expecting. I expected more, at least cold cereal. The room was adequate, but in need of updates.

Comfortable stay.

1st time at this hotel. Our room was large and comfortable. Everything was a bit worn, but we enjoyed the quaintness. Staff was friendly. Lots of free parking.
