good hotel in a poor neighbourhood
the physical features of this hotel are actually very good, but the location is not. it's much further from the beach than I expected from my limited view of the map at the time of booking, certainly much too far to walk. walking is not done in the area, because it's unpleasant (not dangerous though). and the "taxi" situation in the city is rigged (forget finding one that runs on a meter), so to get anywhere you have to just take your lumps in that department. to get a taxi, you have to ask the hotel desk clerk who in our case could speak pretty much no english and had a special arrangement with a driver with a very old truck-like vehicle and charged on the basis of his feelings on the day. as the main feature of pattaya is the beach scene, I'd recommend finding a hotel close to that area.
Pros: the room was spacious and well-appointed, although a bit dated. everything very clean. the breakfast buffet had lots of choices.
Cons: desk staff with at least a little ability in english.
