This is by FAR the most well maintained property I have stayed at in Ocean Shores, and I’ve stayed at many. I loved it. As I’ve never stayed at The Canterbury before, I spent quite some time looking at reviews and came across multiple references to the ‘rules’. Once I booked and received the email, I realized it was all common sense. These are well maintained units in a nice establishment. If you want to sneak dogs in, or leave them unattended aside from a quick trip to the pool, don’t stay here. If you want people in your room who aren’t on your reservation, don’t stay here. If you want to let kids run rampant or drop them off at the pool without any adult supervision, don’t stay here. If you want to party, make a mess of your room, and it’s too much of an inconvenience to dispose of trash at the end of the hall, don’t stay here. The person who reserved the room is the person who needs to be present upon check-in. Don’t check in early if you don’t want to pay $25 and don’t check out late. I don’t understand the confusion. Common sense. Respect. If you DO want a place that takes pride in their establishment, has lovely grounds and clean, well stocked rooms, offers courteous 24 hour customer service, cares about its guests and respects the owners of the units, and knows that the only people who have a problem with ‘the rules’ are the people who want to break them, do yourself a favor and stay here. I look forward to another peaceful, lovely stay here and will return asap.

The woman who checked us in was terrible! She started complaining about how the room I checked out was really weird but always checked out because it's the “cheapest room.” She spoke for about 5 minutes about how weird the room was and kept mentioning how cheap it was as if I couldn't afford more. When I asked her about upgrading the room because I thought our room had two beds and I'd be willing to pay for a better room, she firmly said no and that every room was booked all weekend. I later found out this was a lie as other staff told me there were other rooms available. She then talked to us at length about her family problems and then promptly told us she would “not be helping us anymore” because she was “off the clock and going home” so if we had any problems “don't talk to me.” The other staff were very kind and polite which is why this is not a one star. There is no beach access as advertised as the trail just leads to a swampy area about a quarter mile away from the actual beach. The DVD and TV system is also weird - in 2024 I would expect to at least be able to access and log into applications using the TV and not just cable TV or DVDs. For a hotel that cost over $100 a night I was expecting more even if I did get the “cheap room.” In short the very first experience with the receptionist who checked us in left a terrible taste in my mouth and I will not be returning to Canterbury regardless of the other things that are nice about this hotel.

We will address your complaint regarding the staff. That is a very uncommon thing and they should not be commenting on their personal lives. In regards to the other available rooms I think there was a misunderstanding. There was no additional rooms on some of the nights you stayed and mid-way into the stay there was a 2 bedroom dog unit only. We did not have tons of rooms and again, it was sold out one of your nights. In regards to streaming, we explicitly notify guests at time of booking due to being in a rural area with limited wifi we cannot allow this. We do not control the internet provider and really wish this wasnt the case in 2024 to avoid complaints like this. The trail does go to the beach but if its rained there are wetlands and again, we cannot control that. We hope you enjoy a different hotel in the future and are sorry we fell short on your experience.

Went with a group of friends and enjoyed every minute. We stayed in a dog friendly 2 bedroom suite (did not come with a dog) and we would have never known a dog had been in there. Very clean!

We rated this at 2 stars for a few reasons. Firstly, the emails we received immidiately on booking. The list of rules and regulations were..lets say very detailed. And they offered to cancel your room if you didn't agree with them. Which is upfront...but not a good start to a fun vacation. Had I seen that email on Expedia prior to booking...I would have just not booked with them. I highly recommend putting that email up. We've stayed in many condo/beach locations..first time for us getting such a long detailed list. Anyways..moving on..the email mentioned a early check in fee during the 'busy season' without mentioning any dates. They really need to specify dates. They charged us $25 plus tax for checking in 1.5 hours earlier...on the 9th April when the town was pretty much empty and like 2 people on the beaches. Most hotels do not even start the busy season till May....and they always specify dates. By the time we got through check-in..we were pretty much done with the Inn. That being said..the check in area was very nicely done up. The room in contrast was very dated but clean. It had all the provisions, good condition, and beds were comfortable. The walk to the beach was an adventure that I do not recommend for anyone but the fittest. Overall..we will book elsewhere next time. But if you don't mind the policing tone..this has all the facilities for a good time.

When you book on a site like this, we cannot post our policies which is why they are emailed. We wish you had taken the opportunity to cancel if you were so offput. Our neighbor charges 50 as a early check in fee and since you complained that the email was already lengthy would that really have made a difference? We will let the owner know the comments about the room as they are all privately owned and some are more updated than others. We hope you enjoy another property in the future.

We were very pleased with The Canterbury Inn. The room was just as described and we found it extremely clean and comfortable. The staff was very kind and helpful. We didn’t bring our dog but we loved seeing how dog friendly it was. We were also told in full that it was a pet friendly Inn and we had a choice of a pet room or non- pet room. The Inn is unique in that each room is owned by someone and they decorate and furnish. This made it feel like home. We are thankful we found this location and highly recommend.

The ceilings are noisier then other places I stayed at. The upstairs was very loud. The room was clean and the bed was comfortable but there wasn't a 2nd lock on the door, like an extra security latch or something like that. The front desk lady wasn't very welcoming.

This was our first time staying and we will definitely be returning in the future. The place is very clean, it had a cute set up out back to eat at picnic tables and a play house for the little one. The pool is clean and good size, it was very cold on our last day there though. The hot tub is 14 years and up. The had a good size movie collection to rent with DVD players provided in the rooms. Our studio size room had a mini kitchen that we utilized. Next time we will definitely be upgrading to a one bedroom, the studio is good for 2 people but if you have kids the one bedroom is a must! For the price I personally think this is the best hotel at Ocean Shores.

Great location right in town. Short walk to the clam festival. For clammers, they even have a cleaning station! Can walk right on the beach. Clean facilities, just a little fishy smelling in the unit. Beds super comfortable. Staff very friendly. Be aware only 1 very small elevator.

I showed up with my Bichon for a dog friendly room. The studio that we rented very nice, on the first floor easy access to that important doggy area. We did not plan on cooking but there is a mini kitchen in the room that will fullfill your culinary desire. We will rent it again when in the area.

the staff were very friendly and courteous. they informed me that I booked a sleeper, so no kitchenet, so they gave me paper plates, bowls and plastic silverware to help, that was nice. The sleeper, though small, was like a basic hotel room, the other rooms were much nicer, but this one did fine. The spa / hot tub was very relaxing. Wish there were curtains on the windows, the light from the parking lot still came thru the blinds, so not very dark in the room, but tolerable. ok, for the price, was expecting a kitchen but ok. .the pictures on the website were very vague on which pic went with which room. they really need to update their website. The confirmation email is almost enough not to book again, very insistent to follow the RULES or you will be charged!! down to if you are one minute late leaving or a minute early arriving, you will be charged for another day. sad. weird. still ok for the price. I followed the rules, even though the staff did not have the hot tub ready during the scheduled hours. :O)

We do not advertise this room has having a kitchenette. We also try to make sure that like you said guests are informed of our policies so if they rather book elsewhere prior to arrival they know what to expect. We cannot control the opening of the hot tub and spa when something happens that needs to be addressed. We have to make sure it is safe for you prior to opening it.

It was very dog friendly. Didn't care for the queen size bed or the two chairs but other than that I'm happy So is my dog.

I liked the fact that they have a major remodel going on meaning the condo owners want to keep their property updated and attractive. Staff was friendly and helpful. I thought we would have a view of the ocean but because the city maintains the green belt that is out of the Canterbury's realm. We enjoyed our stay vey much.
