"Glad to arrive after a long journey, and got an excellent welcome from the front desk even safer midnight.
But then lost its lustre - I need to look at hotels.com more carefully, as it seems 'Parking available' means even with empty fields around it, the first thing from the desk was an extra parking charge. The parking charge should be clear on the site at time of booking, but it's not. And not only that - you can't pay the hotel, you must use a QR code to create an account with yet another parking company, trying to avoid downloading yet another app, and hand over credit card details.
The room was large and clean, maybe early 70s corporate retreat center style, bare and outdated but fine. Some things in the bathroom, like tile, have been renovated. Others - like the original bathtub - have not, and there was lots of rust around the drain. Fine for a shower, not sure you'd want a bath in it. But the shower was tricky, because the shower wand holder was way up on the wall, so far that the hose can't reach it without the shower head being pulled down, and the shower shooting along the bath. Judging by the extra holes in the tiles, it had already been repositioned once. I've been in worse motorway hotels, so it's fine.
Didn't sample food - might be a more popular pub than hotel.
Would couples really rate this as 9/10? Maybe if they were drinking in the pub and needed a room. Fine, and could be good if really renovated, but right now not where you'd take your sweetie."
