The New Haven Villiage Suites on Expedia does not advertise itself as a long term/extended stay resident hotel. We were not familiar with New Haven. The hotel is located in the Wharf section of New Haven. It did not appear this was the best part of town. In fact after driving to the hotel my guess is this is the worst part of New Haven. Check in was nice, quick, and efficient. We proceeded to our room to find out the AC was not working. 80-90 degree temps and the AC isn't working. Nice. I called the front desk and they said they would put us in a different room. Plus. When my wife and I went back to our car we noticed how poorly the entire facility looked. Screens off windows, stairwell railings very wobblly, loud music playing, it really looked liked like public housing. We were so alarmed by the location, the condition of the hotel, and quite frankly how the other residents/guests were just sitting on the stairwells hanging out we left and found another hotel. Peace of mind and spending a relaxing night after traveling all day is a priority when we travel. The hotel doesn't have to be the Ritz Carlton or even close, but what I do demand is that we feel safe where we stay and that we feel like our vehicle won't get broken into over night. I really feel like Expedia and the hotel misrepresented themselves. No where on the website does it mention it is a long term resident facility. If I had known I would have never made the reservation. Avoid at all costs.
