Food and comfort were excellent and our room was quite amazing - a family room actually and said by staff to be the best in the hotel. Very well equipped.

Lovely hotel friendly staff
Excellent hotel. Lovely breakfast. Only negative comment why have Booker sauces. They are horrible. Heinz ketchup and hp sauce taste so much better
A lovely inn, dating from the 17th century, with a wood-burning stove in the bar adding to the warmth of the welcome! Clean, comfortable, and with every attention to detail, the customer's comfort is paramount to the friendly and helpful staff who populate this hotel.
An early riser, I was always present when cleaning was taking place downstairs and observed how thoroughly this was done. Staff work hard, and do not allow conversation to distract from the task in hand.
My room was serviced every day, and, although I could have chosen not to let this happen, it was such a pleasure to return from breakfast to a clean room and a neatly made up bed.
Breakfast was unfailingly freshly cooked and hot. Meals were always of a high standard, and bar service prompt and efficient.
Much Wenlock is a lovely old town. The Guildhall and The Priory are both worth a visit, and the area abounds with attractions for tourists, including the fascinating Blists Hill Victorian Town, for which the visitor should set aside several hours. a trip to Shrewsbury was simple and straightforward, due to the frequency of the Park and Ride. All in all, a very enjoyable stay.
Stayed for four nights over a weekend: clean comfortable bedrooms, cosy public rooms, friendly and helpful staff, and good food - couldn't ask for anything more really. And the town of Much Wenlock is delightful.
This hotel should be ashamed of itself, from check in to departure I felt permanently disappointed.
1. Rude check in staff who did not make me feel welcome at all
2. The entire place was last decorated in 1982 and maintained at that design since, heavy embossed wall paper, too much ornate furniture and clutter and tat everywhere, blankets on the bed with bedspreads etc
3. Mixer tap shower over the bath which took an age to get balanced
4. Very poor quality breakfast, everything was deep fried
5. Inattentive service throughout, each and event time I arrived back at the hotel not one single person greeted me or even spoke to me
The list could go on.
It would be easy to read this and think I was being picky, I am not. I am in hotel every week for my job and this level of standard is not acceptable. The usual place I stay at was full and it is exceptional every single time hence me staying at the Gaskell which I was the only resident for 2 of my 3 nights. This standards of places are high especially in this price bracket. If this was £35 a night I would be much more inclined to say it was ok but when you are £80 plus you must do considerably better.
The only good thing about staying there is that know never to book it again...
Anbefales!
rooms and public areas very clean and well cared for....ideally situated for town visit and drive out to stunning countryside, and despite the busy road outside we slept well....service was friendly and attentive...the food was very good indeed...will certainly stay there again...
The staff try hard, but room maintainance and convenience lacking. Stayed in Mews room, bedroom upstairs showerroom and toilet downstairs very inconvenient for elderly couple in the middle of the night.Bedroom roller blind laying on the on the dressing table not put up during three night stay kettle not working on arrival replaced immediately
We stayed overnight as we wanted to see Much Wenlock as it had been recommended to us. We were very disappointed.in the town but found the hotel ticked the boxes.
Warm freindly welcome, the room we had was in the mews, very comfatable, good layout , well decorated, very clean and well maintained. lovely garden area, good menu selection and very friendly staff. Would book again if ever in the area.
Due to the bad weather the hotel was quite empty, but we had a warm welcome, and we loved the roaring fire in the lounge where we enjoyed the best steak and kidney pie ever! This was our second stay and it again came up to our expectations.
