Our first week here truly felt like stepping into another world. The open space, the endless mountain views, and the way nature surrounds you gently remind you to slow down and simply breathe. I’m not a morning person, but every single morning we were woken up by the sweetest little bird — and I found myself smiling before I even got out of bed. Opening my eyes to rolling green mountains and complete stillness felt magical. It wasn’t just a beautiful view; it was a full reconnection — to nature, to ourselves, and to something bigger. The room itself was incredibly comfortable and cozy — a perfect retreat after a day of exploring. Falling asleep to the sounds of nature and waking up to that peaceful view made it feel like a true sanctuary. What made our stay even more special was our host. He was incredibly generous with his time, sharing hidden roads and local spots we would have never discovered on our own. Beyond being a wonderful host, he is also a life coach, and his warm, grounded energy made the entire experience even more meaningful. From the moment we met him, we felt lucky to have found such a special place. This wasn’t just a trip — it was one of the most relaxing and rewarding experiences of our lives. My husband and I recently stayed at Fincas Aquarius for two nights while exploring Monteverde, as we wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle. The location is a little difficult to get to without a good car, but it’s absolutely worth the effort. Fincas Aquarius is nestled in a beautiful valley, with wide-sweeping views all the way down to the ocean. It’s honestly breathtakingly beautiful. Once we arrived, we were greeted by our host, the incredibly welcoming Jan. He made us feel super welcome, and honestly was such an amazing host. Nothing was too much trouble, even to the point where he rescued us when our car got stuck up a rather tricky hill nearby (tip - get a four-wheel-drive car!) Our room was incredible, featuring a sleek and modern design, a beautifully comfortable bed, and possibly one of the biggest bathrooms I’ve seen. The room was very spacious, but the main highlight was the balcony, showing off that million-dollar view. We ate with Jan on both nights, as we didn’t fancy driving into Monteverde after dark. He was a fantastic cook, and it was lovely that he opens his kitchen to guests. The food was great, and he uses a lot of ingredients he grows on-site. Locally, there are lots of things to do. We had a great time at The Original Canopy Tour, Finca Ecologica San Luis which is just down the road, and El Cafetal Coffee Tour which was fantastic. Overall, we had an incredible time staying at Fincas Aquarius. The entire experience was fantastic.

Beautiful accommodation with big modern rooms. We loved the calmness in this peaceful neighborhood which is the perfect place to relax. Jan was an amazing host and took really good care of us. He cooked us amazing food every day (also provide lunch and dinner) and is a full inspiration when he provided my husband and me a coaching session in order to understand ourselves better. We were obsessed with his 6 dogs which are super cute and friendly. All in all we enjoyed our stay so much that we spontaneously extend our stay for another two nights. We came for what we wanted and got what we needed!

Our stay at Finca Aquarius was exceptional. The property is situated in a beautiful valley that is very peaceful and quiet, yet you are 20-30 minutes away from activities in Monteverde/Santa Elena. The rooms are beautifully designed, clean, spacious and have a fantastic view. Jan was an incredible host and amazing cook. We felt very fortunate to spend our last days in Costa Rica here. Highly recommend!

Perfect hideaway in Monteverde region

Finca Aquarius is a very special place to visit. It is not your “normal” hotel. You feel at home immediately and are welcomed by the owner Jan, his family and lovely pack of dogs. He and his family are so friendly, you can just simple be and enjoy the incredible mountainview, or have great conversations about live, work in the garden, cook or even become “Senor Fermentino” and ferment vegetables from the own garden. Around the finca there are many things to do like horseback riding and bird watching (do so with Diana and Kai!).
