This village was one of my other favorites in Southern France. It felt like I was like stepping onto a movie set's scene from the Great Crusades.
The village and its citadel put up a valiant resistance to Simon de Montfort during a seven week siege in 1210. At the end of the siege Simon executed 140 Cathars by burning them at the stake for not renouncing their faith.

Hôtel Le Donjon - Coeur de la Cité Médiévale

10/10 Excellent

"An absolutely magical stay. The location is incredible, like something out of a fairy tale. Staff were warm, friendly, polite and welcoming. Room was spacious and clean. Breakfasts were excellent. I went in winter so the old city was quiet at night, but there were still a couple of great restaurants open, and walking the citadel after dark with nobody around is a breathtaking experience. Can't wait to return!"
